It comes as no surprise to me that Oneness would be staying put. Quite a few posters on here were clearly hoping for its demise after Christmas, when actually there has never been any credible evidence that it was going anywhere- just assumptions and wishful thinking.
It also looks as if the whole year-long collaboration has been extended - with new idents being produced next year.
As much as I’m not a fan of the idents, they’ll probably last for a few years more. I’m looking more at a Rhythm and Movement/Balloon level lifespan, or slightly shorter.
Also equally telling - it also kills off the idea of re-using old idents completely - whatever replaces Oneness in a few years’ time possibly won’t be a continuation of the core BBC One branding from 2006, but a completely revamped and radically changed ident package.
Considering how the standards of their work are actually decent now (particularly with BBC One’s Christmas 2017 idents, and the Supporting Act), sticking with Oneness does allow BBC Creative to finally set themselves up for producing a much better ident package behind the scenes.
