None of those people are ordinary people, and none of them are doing things together, across the UK that the majority of UK public have ever done.
Please explain what you think an 'ordinary person' is.
The people in them are definitely doing things together, or at least pausing the thing to pose to camera. You say they're not things the majority of people do, well what do you want; 30 idents of just people watching telly, stuck in traffic in a bus or having a latte in Costa Coffee?
Ordinary people have all sorts of hobbies and pastimes, that's what they're reflecting
The idents should reflect the channel or UK, and there nothing ordinary about most of the films. Actually all the groups of people could be anywhere in the world, what makes it special to the UK? Birdwatchers, roller skaters, cavers, runners are all around the world, while the bollywood dance around the world as well. Can you say anyone you know, has done any of those things in the idents?
Charlotte Moore, the BBC’s director of content; Said:
Quote:
“I want BBC1 to continue to evolve creatively so it’s important that the channel idents continue to move with the times, too, and feel relevant and in touch with a big and broad mainstream audience,” “What better way to demonstrate this than by commissioning Martin Parr to create idents from a series of portraits which reflect and represent the rich diversity of communities living in the UK today.”
In what way does the idents represent the rich diversity of communities living in UK? Clear missing that point big time. Or does this represent what the BBC believes to be the rich diversity of communities? Or is this what Martin thinks?
That the major underlying problem with the idents, there don't tick any of those boxes. At least Ch4 does that, and one of its idents even saw people putting on earmuffs because there hate channel 4.
So is oneness coming back or not has Charlotte more said this recently

Indeed - the idea isn't terrible, but the idents have such poor production qualities. Wobbly camera-work, people randomly stopping and looking at the camera, bad framing, no soundtrack: stuff that could have been easily rectified and made an alright package.
Indeed, this wouldn't even get a good grade in a Media course.

The issue with the new Christmas idents is seems it’s policy incorrect by the BBC and most major retailers is not to have a white only family.
That is wrong.
87% of the UK is white and you're still complaining? Try the flip side.
The colour of the characters didn't even come into mind until posts like this.
Put it this way, if you aspired to get into to telly and saw someone from a similar background to you working your dream job, it gives a positive reinforcement that you can make it.

I can confirm that it’s right.
The idents don’t in my view represnt a BBC one Christmas, but are brilliant animations....

What is it that's making these people angry? You can't say any white actors have been shunned to star in the film because everybody's made out of f***ing clay! If there's any other argument than "I don't like seeing people who aren't white" I'd like to hear it.

Of course. You seriously don't know anyone who had had an allotments, or been to a keep fit class, or enjoys walking up hills? I could go on
Yes you are missing it big time
Martin Parrs photography is all about celebrating the quirkiness of British life, I've been a fan of his for a while, but can see how others won't get it.
As for celebrating diversity of communities, well it depends what interpretation of the word community you use. Does my local village Hall host Zumba classes, yes. Are there allotments around the corner? Yes. Do communities by the sea have clubs that go sea swimming, yes.
They're not great as idents, but absolutely they represent the sorts of pastimes that we do. Of course some are niche and eccentric, but as I say people sitting in a pub is common but you can't do that 20 times.
It's also irrelevant that a people outside the UK participate in some of those activites... they are all being done in the UK

The mind boggles that this subject is even being discussed. Like other posters have said, who actually noticed the skin colour of animated characters initially? I didn't. I guess the skin colour of the characters did not even enter my head. To regard everyone as equal, you must surely see them as equal, therefore looking to someone because of ethnicity is not adhering to that one simple philosophy. Some people need to save their anger for things that are genuinely worthy of ir.

TL;DR: perhaps see if there are any charities that could use the time you spend on this forum more productively.
------------
Have you considered any of the work that went into the production of these idents?? The pre-production, the shoots, the post work?
For "wobbly", see "handheld" (or shoulder-mounted at least); "randomly stopping", see "choreographed". A lack of additional soundtrack is an artistic decision - hardly something that needs "rectifying". And furthermore, I see no issue with the framing on any of the idents; one thinks perhaps we were scraping the barrel of complaints at this point.
What the TVF populous seems to be confusing is "personal preference" vs "professional creation".
The alternative? A static, locked off, strictly rigid tripod shot in these idents would reduce the viewing impact further than the benchmark you are currently claiming - had they chosen to shoot it this way, no doubt that would be used as a reason to further decry the campaign: "such boring photography - the camera doesn't even move". Seems a very deliberate move to have a handheld, fixed focus shot.
These idents are very deliberately lo-fi. But this fact must not be misconstrued as unprofessionally made. A wide, prime lens is perfectly capable of producing a gorgeous piece of camerawork. Fast-paced cuts, up-tempo music, focus pulls, speedy whip pans, highly-animated graphics, seizure-inducing colour schemes are all very well to grab the focus of an ADHD audience, but their presence is not equal to high-production values -- the very opposite in fact, as I, for one, would often find myself using such shots to hide the mistakes of a cameraman whose work I have found dumped on my desk.
Don't get me wrong though. I don't like the set. As the nation's de facto flagship channel, one perhaps should expect more glitz and glamour: compare the Oxford Street branches of your favourite shops with the local stores near your home for a parallel. But the essence of BBC One should be focusing on quality content: informing, educating and entertaining. The graphics between programmes shouldn't find themselves being more spectacular than the shows they are introducing, or we would be living in a world of nothing but chorus and climax.
Think how knackered you would be if you spent 18 hours of your day ejaculating before handing over to BBC News 24 through the night. Doesn't bear thinking about does it?

Perhaps people think its all done for the sake of it, ie someone actively decided these clay figures should be non white to make a point of some kind. Despite the majority of the country being white. Doing things for show, or to make a point of some kind, I think is what sometimes annoys people. I wouldn't say angry. It would have been easier (not in terms of making the things) to have a selection of families, perhaps from different cultures. Then everyone is kept "happy". A lot of advertisers get around this by having a mixed race family.
