I can only imagine that these two keep being used because they're for New Year and just hope some of the others are better. I've thought there's often been a little too much negativity on here about new work (I remember someone inexplicably kept saying the simple but very well-produced Christmas set had "low production values") but in this case so far I can't disagree with the reaction. I'm struggling to find anything to like about them and am in a bit of a state of disbelief.

I know not everyone likes Channel 4's idents as much as I do, but it can't be denied that the use of Jonathan Glazer and Mica Levi absolutely comes though and nobody else could quite have produced those visuals and soundtracks. From the little I've seen so far of these, I'm not really thinking "Good thing they got Martin Parr", these two aren't even particularly in the usual style of his photographs.

I think this has also made me re-evaluate the current presentation on ITV, it might be understated and simple but it has a distinctive, recognisable style and it looks really good.

I think the junction into Sherlock later will be key, perhaps there'll be something a bit special. If it's one of these again, it'll be embarrassing.

Yes, I was a big fan of the Channel 4 rebrand from the start and have some favourites in the ITV set.

I have to say there have been some over-the-top posts in this thread in terms of language used, but I don't disagree with the sentiment.
Nicky, dbl and Blake Connolly gave kudos

There are good aspects about the Channel 4 package, i.e. pulling the blocks apart and exploring their "origin", but the idents themselves are not good, even if they are well made. Same with ITV and the Rhythm and Movement ones.

At least they won't be able to accuse the BBC of wasting money.

If the papers wanted to find out, would they be able to find out through a freedom of information request to the BBC?

Hence why it's been launched on a double bank holiday

I guess they cost no more then £10k each. Small crew, one camera, one sound guy, a researcher to find the groups, a producer, the director and a hire car. Post production on/offline in a day. No fees for a big firm here.., I guess ?

While the Times managed to get the scoop on the poor idents - other newspapers such as the Mirror are now getting wind of it.

And endless meetings where they watch them and just nod and go 'yes brilliant' 'can we add 25% more fun'. W1A anyone? Very Happy

How come the BBC can come up with these totally awesome concepts for BBC Two for one programming strand on one evening, yet they produce these execrable idents for BBC One we've seen so far that are supposed to last for years to come??
