Just spotted an Apprentice sting featuring Alan Sugar drawing the O in One before The One Show.
I may be mistaken, but I'm sure they used that last year. There'll be on with Karen and Claude too.
Correct.
Could they not have done a better job of getting him to start and finish at the same point, rather than having to fudge it and rotate the "o" as he "draws"?!

No holiday for an ident fan to Cornwall would be complete without a visit to The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno. It was a lovely sunny day today, as you can see. One thing that struck me was that it's smaller than it appeared on screen, with Rhythm and Movement's Ballet ident. Those ballet dancers must have had very little room to dance.

The ballet ident was one of the better Rhythm and Movement idents, with high production values, yet rarely seen. Shame really.
Reserved for sombre news after a few months wasn't it? Pope John Paul's funeral is the only outing of it after that which I can recall, other than the final airing.

To my eternal frustration, I set a timer recording (on an S-VHS machine) to catch that final R&M compilation (in the early hours on the morning of the new look), thinking I padded plenty of extra time to allow for a later than scheduled airing, and my recording stopped a few seconds into that final (full length) showing of Ballet. One of those things you never quite get over, especially as there seems to be no full length copies anywhere online in very good quality.

I have always learnt to add another 2mins to any recordings. I had to do that with 00.30 jct at Hogmanay. Ive just managed to get everything with 0.5 sec spare and that me putting in a 15min recording for a 2 and 1/2 min jct..

I added, it would have been, something like 30 minutes with that particular recording. It still wasn't enough!

So true! As bad for me when I was out in Greece and set a 4 hour tape for ERT's 2000 Today event as I wanted full copies of their edits of the BBC stings. Only for there to have been a minor power cut on the island (not an unusual event) and didn't get a single minute. I regret it to this day.

The old Idents.tv blog (don't visit it now, it's been hacked) had some good quality copies of these
Thinking about it now, the clean copies of the balloon idents from Idents.tv were all in 4:3. And I believe someone posted on here that the balloon idents in the analogue suite initially still came off LaserDisc. So I wonder if that's the source for them…
