Sprout Boy had good intentions. It was just a crap concept that wore thin very quickly.

Regardless of my opinions on the character itself, the idents were a major disappointment as they were second fiddle to the extended trailer, and consisted of badly looped animations.

Oh, OK. Just for you. A little present. Well, it's just 98 days until Christmas! Sprout Boy or Oneness?

I'm hoping for a sopping wet, still undressed sea swimmer, a bog snorkeller, and a bhangra dancer sitting round a dining table, awaiting a nut roast in candlelight, complete with shaky camerawork cutting off the "Happy Holidays" banner in the background.

Was the llama not invited?

Well, hardly, considering it'll be the roast they're carving! Don't want to frighten it into not coming. The banger racing attendees will go hungry!

Which is why this set is so disappointing, Christmas was a decent effort.

I didn't think much of any of last year's BBC One Christmas Idents. They appeared on screen to be well, un-Christmassey! The red bauble was unimaginative and the three main ones, the jumper, the bald head and the Dining Table scene, were so boring that it made Christmas TV seem uninspired and dull. The Christmas Day Oneness idents were also crap, but we probably enjoyed them because of the dreariness and repetitiveness of the main set. They were fresh and different. If they were the Christmas Idents though and were shown all through December, there would be a totally different view on them. A decent ident set, and let's face it, even 2012's red curtain, had more variety and festive ambience than last year's set, doesn't need to be carried by an additional set in order to make the offerings more attractive. Last years Christmas presentation was muddled and inconsistent and I really hope this year, that a simplistic, captivating and a wholly festive package is created. 2014's for instance was a decent enough package as was the wrapping paper of 2013.

2014's package was gorgeous, from visuals to the incredibly festive version of the BeeGees 'To Love Somebody'. The only issue was focussing on a few programmes meant that after Christmas Day they seemed to rely on using the short form ident. A shame that they didn't consider a generic one or two at least. That sort of ident is what I'd expect and I'd love to see something similar and festive for this year.

Whilst sprout boy was a lovely idea of creating a character for use over the Christmas period IMO they didn't push it far enough. Bespoke story idents should have been created (rather than short loops) along with sprout boy interacting with the presentation elements on the channel.

Absolutely beautiful wasn't it. And memorable too. I liked the 2010 set for that same reason. 2013, however, they needn't have bothered (like they didn't ten years earlier).

I totally agree. The 2010 music, whilst the set up became a little repetitive, the roof lights and musical score were very good, especially for the news ident.

Is that a different SCD ident?
