Surely there must be a 'safe' news ident, a group of people moping about and smiling in the sea or prancing around in a village hall is hardly appropriate to introduce a news programme.

Perhaps the news "ident" will be a group of people looking at newspapers in a newsagent.

If they decided to slash budgets even further and just use the News Channel countdown going into BBC One bulletins, I'd be happy. Anything is better than this set of non-idents.

I'll give them credit they've very quickly achieved "oneness". We're all united in hating them.

It's also having a personality problem when introducing certain programmes - they are far too lighthearted to introduce through to serious programming.

Coming up now on BBC One, Crimewatch.

Actually no, they'll have e-fits of people with the BBC One logo at the bottom for that. Laughing

A piece of poetic irony - surely it'll backfire for Moore and co, once prime time begins.

Roadmen more like.

Exercise ident - 'Now on BBC ONE, the News at Ten'

'Shocking scenes as terrorist attack claims more than 50 lives'

Seriously it looks extremely out of place for serious programming. And I'm happy that TWO can nail it with Silk.

It is odd that they are just showing the same ident and variants all day so far. Perhaps people would like it better if they showed a variety. The swimmers and exercisers are going to be tedious by 1.30pm. There are rescue teams on the brecon beacons to show yet and I'm sure there must be others. When new pres packs launch, they usually show all of them in the series on launch day. If they only have these two ready, then they should have done a New Year variant of the Christmas idents and launched the new package when more idents were ready.

The swimmers ident doesn't even really work. They are all stood around waiting for a queue to go in the sea, which makes it look they've been put there specially to film the ident. Even though this is true, isn't the idea to make them look as natural as possible? So to the viewer it seems like the swimmers would have been there anyway?

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it seems very forced.

Probably because they are the New Year themed ones.

As the production values show that this year's 'effort' was done in 30 minutes - anyone can replicate stock footage with a logo slapped on, as this video shows.

Even that one's more imaginitive than the BBC One idents, with camera movements and the background going out of focus.

Would have probably worked better if they were all seen running into the sea, rather than standing around. That way there's some perspective of them running from behind the camera into the foreground.

Can we talk about how this person doesn't seem to have the ability to blink
