That's the problem with launching initially with just two, instead of having a full set to use, you've now got some that were so repetitive having been used in every junction, they need retiring. Those two were both ridiculed as well whereas now the new ones are more acceptable as people are past caring.
Well, they usually get added to, unless there's only one ident in the package ever, but they usually start off with more than two! The only reason to only have one or two is if it's a CG ident - like the 1998 Yorkshire one that had day and night variants with different shades of blue for backgrounds.
BBC Two's "Window on the World" package springs to mind - no additions to the regular roster, sparing the Titanic ident in Northern Ireland.
Football Tagging
wasn't introduced at time of launch.
Yes but only a month after the set launched - they added nothing after that, IIRC.
Does my point stand or not? I've just cited an ident that wasn't introduced at launch date.
Window on the World
did not launch with quite the full set. Forgive me if you feel I'm being pedantic.
Does a new ident era ever begin with a 'full set'?

I recall reading about how apparently controversial the tagging idents were back then - with regards to their production values. Having watched them on YouTube, it certainly seems the case.
Window on the World was a decent set in retrospect; but the idea was never expanded over the years and in a stunning case of self-defeatism, completely downplayed the wit and humour of the 2 symbol.

Often a full set which then has additions, rather than two. The Rhythm and movement started with what, about 6 or 8 which would constitute a full set at the time.

To be honest, Darren, I'm rather reluctant to call
Football
a 'regular' ident. Considering the fact that it was used almost exclusively into programmes about the sport, I'd argue that it was no more a regular ident than
Snooker
today.

It was mostly used leading into Football-related programmes, but not exclusively, whereas Snooker is never used with anything other than Snooker. I'd regard it being used in this way as being on the regular rota, though you're very welcome to disagree.
