What's a much more pressing need, is to have the red swirl, with Windows soundtrack (from the previous era) updated, for use with "your" 90-second update, just before 8pm each weekday evening.

Watching BBC ONE Scotland's closing last night, after being treated to a reasonably long Birdwatchers ident, a near 60' BBC News countdown took the channel up to the hour. My question is, though, would the countdown have been played from Glasgow? The only reason for asking is that Robert Peston was still shown in it, and I'm not up to date on who's in and out of it currently.

Yes, if it was just Scotland then it would be played from Glasgow. I imagine it's quite easy to forget to send the nations new versions. Though I'm sure if he reads this then Mr Currie will be on the case
That's a very old version isn't it? From before the 2013 revamp. The bigger box and Gill Sans for the countdown font gives it away
