I'm surprised to see that no one from BBC Creative stood up to the criticism - some of the potential reasons laid out earlier hold some level of impetus. Most of the fundamental problems with the idents really do show in that segment.

Next weeks POV should have a rather nice feature behind the scenes within BBC News discussing bias...

Birdwatchers was used into a programme about Madeleine McCann. Not the best decision they've made...

everything the viewers said in the clip were their own opinions - there isn't really much bbc creative can say, other than that they disagree but such a comment would not be any more authoritative than the viewer - it's simply another opinion.

i was a bit disappointed by pov - i'd have thought they'd at the very least get a soundbite from martin parr explaining what he was trying to achieve, perhaps showing some of his photography work so people could at least see where he was coming from and what he was trying to do.

I agree with the above comments on Points of View: what a wasted opportunity. The interviewees were fine in terms of expressing everything that is wrong with these "idents" but the lack of a follow-up interview with anyone representing the BBC's side of things was poor.

Perhaps they're all hiding away in embarrassment. And rightly so.

The BBC could and should have evolved the circle idents and come up with something similar to this, which I think could work for BBC One. I'd say this is France 5's cross between Rhythm and Movement and Circles.

I'm assuming one of, if not both, of the following; either the BBC expected the negative backlash and tried to cover it up by having a monumentally small focus group and quickly moving onto a topic, and/or they're give so small a f*** about the matter that they got this group of people together for everybody to laugh and snigger at in a "don't you have more important things to worry about" approach and couldn't take it seriously enough to seek a riposte from anyone in charge of branding.

Yep. I was contacted by them on Twitter, gave them a email address but... never again. Even when they get webcam videos. Very lazy attempt.

Turns out it was just four people venting their frustration with them only for Jeremy to start talking about something on BBC Two. Not even a response from anybody at the BBC.

That's usually the POV response when they think, these people are nutters and or commenting on a trivial matter, that don't even deserve a response.

That's how it used to be back in the day. Sometime the response the bbc gives us Is crap anyways.

I've always felt we could do with a proper Right To Reply like show returning to actually get proper questioning and answers from the people in charge. POV has never really been anything other than light fluff.

Yes. The early days of Right To Reply (1980s) were excellent, I thought Gus MacDonald was very good and it was the programme's policy to always let the viewer have the last word. Actually, the tenure under Roger Bolton was also good.

Of course the BBC did have Biteback from the late 80s to mid-90s which was along those lines and had a more serious tone than PoV.
