Just to make it clear it was the Network that did that junction not Scotland.

Did the news channel air some kind of ident/holding slide when BBC1 cut to an ident?

That is (IMO) one of the scariest announcments you can get on TV... It's never good.

I guess Royal babies is about the only thing that comes close to good breaking news. Sadly in society people taking lives always get more airtime than people saving lives.

No, just a pause in their commentary over the helicopter shots as BBC One opted in. BBC World News had already joined the joint coverage at around 14:55.

Maybe BBC2 is just playing off the BBC one server? with Idents just being inserted? Since BBC one is clearly getting its feed from BBC news Channel.

Indeed, there are two servers. Programmes play out from one of them on a server port. A backup (guard) is played from another server on a separate port. It can be cut over to in the event of a server failure. Thus, programmes are available across all channels in the transmission area. So a BBC1 programme can easily be loaded in the BBC2 area and vice-versa.

The news channel is always available ready to air at a moments notice, as they did this afternoon rather well with the fade to a slide and then the news source

Not trying to diminish the seriousness of what's going on, but it's nice to see such a nice transition compared to what happened when Nelson Mandela died.

I'm glad that they've gone back to using a simple, static, silent 'News Report' slide for moments like this. Much better than fading in and out of Kites with the inappropriately upbeat soundtrack. The one good thing that has come out of this revamp I guess.

They had better air BBC1 Forest for the news at Ten O'Clock tonight rather than BBC1 Bird Watchers trying to zoom in on the action with their binoculars, otherwise it will be most inappropriate.

At least it's still not saggy arses and moobs in the sea.

Forest was used by BBC One NI for the 6pm news.
