With the BBC One logo now relegated to the bottom of the idents, one would be forgiven for thinking these were promos rather than idents.

I believe the art of television presentation just died. Honestly why bother with them? They've not even tried to make them look visually good?

Christ. Dire.

The Christmas Day ones had some decent editing and post production. These are literally some random footage with the logo animating on. There is nothing to explain why we are looking at some fellas stood in the sea. Genuinely can't believe someone signed this **** off and thought it would go down well.

Agreed - what the hell happened!

They've frankly made a good job of making BBC ONE much less appealing.

And here's the damage control by Moore, ready to be tore a new one:

“I want BBC One to continue to evolve creatively so it’s important that the channel idents continue to move with the times, too, and feel relevant and in touch with a big and broad mainstream audience."

'relevant and in touch'
The trouble is, the Oneness set is bland and has no thought and creativity whatsoever. I take my comments back about the slogan - its novelty will wear out quickly, and production values wise it's extremely s***e. There isn't a symbol to represent BBC ONE as a whole. Takes that down the drain, isn't it?

'evolve creatively'
Guess what - people doing stuff with a logo slapped on isn't creative of the sort. It's nothing more than bland and generic.

I do remember saying that when the poor Christmas idents of last year first aired - we have to be wary of any rebrand that occurs. It's far worse than I expected, though my expectations were in check.

I love how the man in the black tank top on the far left in the back row seems to be doing his own thing until the end.

Seems like they want to show that they're local and outside the major production hubs.

A second version of the bathers ident was just aired before Match of the Day.

I've just seen the 8:20 ident into MOTD.

I really can't believe how far standards have dropped at the BBC. This is beyond pathetic. It's embarrassing that our national broadcaster thinks this is acceptable.

Just put the 'circles' back on, and either keep them, or come up with something better. This is NOT acceptable.

Take a grain of salt for any rebrand of TWO and FOUR.

How did we go from legendary and excellent idents such as the COW and Balloon, to this crap? As I've repeated before, Moore (The boss of BBC ONE/TWO/FOUR) and BBC Creative should be ashamed of allowing this s***e to go on air. It's embarrassing how standards of ident making have dropped, especially at the BBC.

Interesting that the two idents seen so far were filmed in Clevedon (in Somerset) and Avonmouth (in Bristol).

Two locations which, from a national perspective, are practically next door to each other. And both within the BBC West region.

Unless there's a pretty damn large number of idents in the set (like ITV), then for a plural number of them to be from the same limited corner of the UK is not very balanced. Not having the geographic captions on them would help (one would never identify the inside of that hall as being in Avonmouth, however Clevedon Pier is a landmark).

Assuming (hoping?) that idents have been filmed in places as disparate as e.g. Aberdeen and Penzance, it might have been better to ensure that no two idents used consecutively (especially on the first day) were from such near-to-each-other locations, so that it wouldn't initially seem like BBC West have taken over BBC One nationally.

What if the rest of idents used today are from e.g. Bath, Cheltenham, Minehead, Swindon and Taunton?!

Hopefully, they'll do exactly like ITV and have a very large (and ever expanding/changing) set to keep it constantly fresh.

I have no idea why TV executives think that 'real life' bits of film make good idents - they don't. They are just dull and boring. Creative my ar*e.

Random footage with the logo slapped on and a line of text saying where it is? Well at least we know where the graphics team from UTV have moved now. Although it's probably a sad indictment of current branding that 'hmm... at least they've actually bothered to put a logo over the top' is a redeeming feature.

Interesting that according to The Times article they're refusing to say how much they've spent on them this time round which they've always seemed to do previously, despite the guaranteed criticism. Presumably it's either so low they don't want to reveal they actually spent so little, or so high they're too embarrassed to reveal it, but is this the first rebrand where they've refused to release any figures?

Blah. What I expected. Once again, people doing things with a logo slapped on top.

Nobody in the industry cares about idents anymore. Just more rubbish press releases from the BBC and passing indifference from the general public will ensure that these just carry on as normal for ages.

I expect nothing less.
