I know what that forest "ident" needs. A hot air balloon globe in the background.
You would have thought not getting the hot air balloon tangled up in all those trees would be an even harder thing to do than teaching hippopotami to swim in a group circle

In fact, believe it or not, I even have 'behind-the-scenes' footage of myself taking the photograph. It just so happened that I was chatting to someone whilst I was working out the composition of the shot, and he was taking some timelapse photography for himself of the same scene. He asked me if I minded being in the shot and I said go for it. We exchanged email addresses and he subsequently gave me the link to his upload. I'm the one in the grey shirt and tracksuit bottoms seemingly whizzing about. Didn't know until after I first saw this that I had a slightly bald crown!

It's been known for some time that Forest would not include any reference to the Oneness campaign. Forest was intended to be used only in extreme situations. Clearly, there's been a policy change of some sort in the last few days. An interesting development.
It looks to be that the BBC originally planned two new 'Oneness' idents a month - but what's happened since then:
- Overwhelmingly negative response to the idents, exceeding Rhythm and Movement's initial reception as the worst BBC ONE pres package
- The initial two idents being deemed as unsuitable for serious programming; last Monday was evident of this when Capes was used before Panorama
- The subsequent change of plan for rolling out new idents - Mountain Rescue, Wheelchair Rugby Team and from last night, Forest have begun to be used (the latter has been elevated from obit status).
It's pretty clear that the BBC have realised that Sea Swimmers is unsuitable for the news and as such, Forest has now become the ident used to introduce BBC News. I personally think that the trigger for them to do such a change was when Capes, from the circle set, was introduced. It proves that the BBC don't have much confidence on this, as well as the evident identity crisis that is happening across the BBC.
Wicko mentioned about the current idents being used without the Oneness tagline beyond 2017. Without that, it'll just show that the idents lack meaning at all and if anything, representing BBC ONE as a whole. BBC TWO and FOUR are also in need of new presentation - though it's questionable if there will be any quality at all.
One thing to note, where's the Oneness strap?

I think these new idents are very poor (sorry know its been said many times already). The idents produced for Watch by projecting scenes onto houses looked far better and was no doubt created with a similar budget (complete guess). Why has the BBC done this.
I hope soon a re-brand is in store to rid the screens of this mumbo jumbo.

Yes, it does seem as if a sudden change of heart has occurred at the BBC. It was simply unsustainable for Sea Swimmers and Exercise class to be used for 31 days non-stop. It also clearly demonstrates just how an authoritive ident the singular spinning globe was. That could be used for every junction bar none because it represented quality and authority. I think if the BBC had a bold and instantly recognisable symbol, they could easily get away with just one or two variations. I wonder if they will now rush out more idents in order to enhance the new set more quickly?
I think the crux of the matter is that whoever launched the new look with just two idents was clearly making a major misjudgement. I doubt that we'll ever see a rebrand like that again!

Other than assumptions here there was never anything that said they'd use 2 a month. There was an indication they'd be 24 in total and that events like Wimbledon would have special ones, but nowhere in the official blurbs (which didn't amount to much as they were) did they say they'd role out just two a month.
RE
I think it must have arisen from the fact that Sea Swimmers and Exercise Class were extremely unsuitable to show throughout the month. Monday was the wake-up call after they used a circle ident to link into Panorama.
Surely any change of plan won't have come from viewer complaints (if there were any), they'd have come from internal complaints?

Well, they could have come from the BBC getting negative feedback from viewers, designers, internal departments and of course from Martin Parr himself who may have felt unfairly chastised due to the BBC's bizarre decision to just show the same idents over and over which ultimately got on everyone's nerves!

That's Forest used for both News bulletins so far today. I think we can be fairly comfortable now, in the knowledge that we don't have to view hideous bums with the associated risk of vomiting, at meal times anymore
