Probably just wishful thinking, but I wonder if there's any chance the new weather graphics will come in at the same time? I remember several people saying they had been in the planning for a while, and that was late last year, so they must be due soon. I'm doubtful, though.

Surely it would make sense to adopt a News 24/World style tower/ DOG so that branding seems vaguely coherent throughout all BBC News branded operations? I suppose if the straplines (?) change, they'll transition in like on the news channels too.

I doubt it too. I wish they would bring back the Weather Stings. My favourite was the one with the Wellies in.

Yes, I wonder why they got rid of them? They were nicely designed, and gave the weather the introduction it deserved!

On the topic of weather stings - there seems to be a nice one on the BBCi feed since the old stings were dropped, but as I don't have Sky I've not seen it. Could anyone capture it?

Don't forget that they will probably update the graphics, including astons, and it will probably be bye-bye to Gill Sans, replaced with Swiss721, which News 24 and World use (meaning an end to old style graphics bleeding across to News 24 and World in report produced mainly for the news on BBC ONE). It will be intresting to see if the astons are basically a clone of the News 24/World graphics, or if they do something different.

I'd like to see them do the same sort of thing as they've done on The World, but using the same colours as N24. Something like this...

Changes coming to Breakfast too, some of the local news opts will be shorter because they are removing the regional weather. There will be seperate regional weather opts at 0645 and 0745

that's interesting... wonder how that will work in regions where the news presenter self ops the bulletin (ie Leeds) - will Clare Frisby do the button pressing for the weather or will someone else jump into the "hotseat" and hope they don't accidentally cut up the camera that's pointing at them?

Seems like a bad idea as the weather often refers to the news or travel. What are they going to say, stuff like "Travel now, and as you heard from Lisa 15 minutes ago its foggy this morning so be careful on the M1", "Snow has gripped the region today, there will be a full forecast from Lisa in erm.. 45 minutes time"

Maybe the opt in and out could be done directly from the weather presenters clicker, by rewiring it via the self-opt desk

I can't see the music changing that much at all really.

I've heard that it's quite a dramatic change, but that's just someone's opinion, of course.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please say that the colours switch to BLUE!

After seeing all that green on World I can't help but hope that cool blue will prevail over all that red -- I said it before and I'll say it ag'in: "she looks like a Burmese brothel, she does."

And, by the way, nothing says "bye bye Hutton, hello future" like a totally new set of packaging for BBC news and current affairs programming. Sort of like giving Jeffrey Archer a makeover once he's released Wink.

In fact, I think this should be the subject of a new reality show for BBC Three. "BBC News: The Makeover." Follow several BBC apparatchiks as they rapidly retool and rebrand BBC News to rebuild the corporation's image in the wake of the devastating findings of the Hutton inquiry. Feel the tension in editorial meetings where they ENFORCE standards of objectivity (primarily through ruthless censorship Wink), observe the stylish new look, feel and music that goes along with an updated, more friendly format. Maybe the presenters can all wear red vests and caps with the BBC logo emblazoned on them in a brilliant white. After all, it's the new corporate look. Wink

Of course this would be saying that the BBC were guilty of the allegations made in the Booker Prize nominated Hutton Report, which of course they aren't!

I didn't condemn the BBC. Regardless of whether they're to blame or not, now is indeed a good time to start fresh in whatever way BBC News can.
