Which is 11:30pm GMT, so we actually see it 2 hours later than you guys do.

Will do a video capture of the programme as we see it if you're interested.

In addition to what Stu said about the various programmes on UK networks, some NBC News reports are also shown on the ITV News Channel here.

midwesterntv -- Are you using some type of DVR/PVR (Digital Video Recorder/ Personal Video Recorder) (Tivo or ReplayTV) to record the shows?

As a matter of fact, yes. I use the Hughes DirecTV reciever w/ TiVo.

(You probably noticed from the small bar at the bottom of the screen indicating how much of the program has aired/recorded.)

God - what would I do without a TiVo... Very Happy

I wish that we had more news from the UK (i.e. BBC News) over here. All I get to see is BBC World News on the local PBS station or on BBC America - which I have stopped watching ever since they got rid of 'Father Ted'.

Those basta'ds....

Well here's how we see WNT on BBC News 24. The video shows four key parts:

1) The trailer for WNT that N24 shows after the weather at 01:29, billing the programme as next.
2) The end of N24 summary and the start of WNT, note: this is over 8 minutes after the trailer which said it was next.
3) End of part 1 of WNT, N24 headline summary, hand back to WNT for part 2.
4) End of WNT, which is immediately followed by weather.

Sometimes we get a "Recorded" bug in the top-left which is the same width as the "tower" int he bottom-left. Sometimes it's black on grey and sometimes it's further over to the right and is white on black next to a red box. It used to be the case that it was always there, but since the News 24 revamp, it doesn't always appear - last night it only appeared over the closing credits, tonight not at all.

Only 24 episodes of Father Ted were ever made, in three series of 6, 10, and 8 episodes respectfully, so I guess they ran out. The reason they didn't make any more episodes of Father Ted is because Dermot Morgan (Ted) sadly died, the day after they shot the last episode.

Sounds ... confusing. Here, the local 5p newscast ends with a "World News Tonight is coming up next, we'll see you again at 6."

Then World News Tonight starts.

I am seriously thinking of taking a trip to the UK just to get a better understanding of what's on TV. Smile

Not really confusing, however WNT in reality is only 20 minutes or so long when you cut out the break in the middle, and BBC News 24 runs in 30 minute segments (it has to at this time of night because the half of each hour here is simulcast with BBC World until 5:00), all commercial free of course. So the BBC have to fill that remaining 10 minutes with something. So before WNT there's a summary, with sport, and in the middle there's a headlines recap.

Because of the simulcasting of the first half hour, there's no other way they could bill the programme as next, other than with a trailer.

Yep - I think the BBC also have to edit some stings into WNT to stitch the various bits together.

In America I believe WNT contains more than one ad break, and also carries sponsorship (or did) on some of it's stings/titles.

The BBC have to replace the sponsorship stings (as the BBC can't carry sponsored shows - only coverage of sponsored events is allowed) - and edit together sequences that are interrupted by ad breaks in the US - apart from one break in the middle that is used to provide UK headlines at 0145ish.

The Beeb have to run a long news and sports summary before showing WNT at 0138ish because the show runs for only 20mins or so once you have removed all of the commercial breaks (a good 4-8 mins shorter than a BBC One network bulletin...) and they don't want to hit the weather too early and have to play out loads of trails before the 0200 bulletin. (They can't just start the 0200 early because BBC World opt-in at the top of the hour)

They will probably just do what they did in 2000; NBC modify their Dateline set for the Decision broadcasts, and CBS just use the main anchor set as normal.

yeah Yeah Last year ABC News used their Times Square Studio and constructed that video wall...remember years ago NBC and CBS used to pull out all the stops and build those massive newsrooms and sets. Money is really tight. But the networks here in the UK usually have a bit of "fun" with the elections, by constructing sets and such.

First off, thanks for stealing my screenshots chiguy33.
(I'm kidding, I really don't mind and you probably had no clue I even visited this forum.)

Anyways, I have video for people interested:

Thanks for not being nasty about it. Most people on this forum tend to get snarky about such things. I was just trying to share. cheers
