I noticed this morning that the 4 squares and countdown from 4 Learning has gone and been replaced by filmed scenes with the occassional swoop of stripes across the screen. Looked quite good - if they can do stuff like this for 4 Learning, why can't they sort out their daytime graphics!

There's no countdown? Even in the corner of the screen?

Is there any need for one now?

It's a nice touch. News 24 wouldn't look as good without it either.

Is Daytime on 2/Schools on BBC TWO still running, or have they devoted the whole morning to Cbeebies?

CBBC tends to show older schools programmes whilst the traditional service on BBC Two continues though there are very few new programmes these days and there is at least one day when no progs are broadcast.

My view is that in the future schools programmes will only be available on video and perhaps the BBC Two service will transfer to CBBC. It has happened already with schools radio moving from Radio 3 to Radio 4 Digital - I wonder how many schools have digital radios? Rolling Eyes

Perhaps a use for 701 would be to show Schools programming by day. I really can't see why Radio 3 has got rid of schools radio though - I don't know ANYONE who listens to Radio 3 at any time - so why not? Channel 4 continue to provide an excellent service for all ages, especially Secondary education, but Auntie doesn't seem interested in Under-18 learning any more, unless it concerns Exams - Even the old ones are all about Maths, English and History. Also - how to Channel 4 make any gain out of the Learning slot - are they given a govenment grant?

I don't think it is called 4learning anymore because after Beat The Nation it said the name if the programme was next rather that saying 4learning and the idents (well, I only saw the 1 before teen BB) only say '4'. The website still says '/learning' though and TV guides say '4learning'.

It's strange that its changed just on a random Monday, normally they wait until the start of a new term.

They seem to go through a lot of looks thesedays, remember at one time they kept the same presentation on Channel 4 Schools for about 5 years!

Ahh the good old rotating ITV's, those were the days!

I am glad that they have replaced them as for some reason I can't stand the look they had with all of those kids over the place, I didn't mind the look they brought in 1999, as that was decent and it had cool music.

Though Channel 4 still provides a good schools service, their presentation is no where near as good as the ITV days of the service. Though I guess its annoying on BBC Two that they only provide a few hours of programmes a week, but I guess theres no need to, as schools just use tapes, we always watch tapes, in Business Studies the other day we watched a programme from The Learning Zone preceeded by the LZ BBC2 ident, pre 1997. Though the school I went to shows really old tapes, we even watched a few episodes of Your Living Body (Granada, 1984) Scientific Eye (The 1980's ones, with all the dodgy graphics) and I think we watched Science Topics (BBC2, mid 1980's)

Though I would rather watch a schools programme rather than CBeebies.

The new look does sound good IMO, about time they changed it.

Ah, yes I remember them. There was a programme we watched and our teacher always used to take us to the TV Room (Ahh, the TV Room. Never had that at Secondry school. At secondry school we just have loads of videos, even though plenty of the recordings date back to the 70s and 80s, we never see the idents as the teachers always cue up the video before the lesson. Pah.) a few minutes early becuase we wanted to watch it. It's amazing how well I remembber it seeign as it was discontinued shortly after my 7th Birthday.

Schools radio hasn't been on Radio 3 for years has it? I thought it was on the original Radio 5 when it first started up, then moved to 4 Long Wave when 5Live launched

I thought it moved to Radio 3 in 1994 between 2 and 3pm on Monday to Friday and stayed this way until the late 90s. I would probably be right as I was given the duty of recording programmes when I was at primary school!
