just seen a promo on bbc two for the new learning zone from january. its a *little* late so do forgive me if i get this wrong - but i think it said mondays from 1am tues-sunday from 2am.
does this mean a new look? tighter scheduling to avoid using ceefax (as opposed to starting the LZ at 3am after a gap at weekends)
oh and the promo IIRC used the old acorns falling - but with |B|B|C| LEARNING ZONE left aligned and smaller than the 1997 style
That sounds a much better idea. It would give BBC2 more choice or programming as I feel sometimes that BBC2 struggle to find what programmes to show between the 11.20pm-12.30pm slot after Newsnight. At least now there are more options for the schedule, an old movie some nights would make a nice change.
I am wondering will The Learning Zone start at 2am on Friday's and Saturday's as well or will the new schedule apply just for the weekday nights. Also, I have heard a few rumours that The Learning Zone will be shown over the Christmas fortnight. Does anybody know about this?
The falling Acorns look complete with 1997 branding style has lasted quite well hasn't it? Is it the only part of BBC Two output now still to use this old-style branding? They've had it as long as I can remember really, and I taped off it Summer 1998 for the Bitesize series and it doesn't seem to have changed very much
Interesting. Wonder whether they'll go to the bother of new branding or an edit/twist on the current acorns (which is a nice design) or nothing at all? Will BBC Two be able to go to 2am every single night? If they show late films, they won't all finish at 2am. Seems Ceefax isn't dead...
I'm looking forward to this new schedule. The ideal schedule BBC2 could have when The Learning Zone changes it's schedule is for the regular BBC4 programmes showing between 11.20pm until around 12.00am and then show a movie filler until 1.30am or 2am, apart from Tuesday nights when Learning Zone starts at 1am. Ceefax could then be shown to fill the gaps after the late film or on Tuesday nights from 12.30am.
I'm surprised to see Learning Zone showing on Saturday nights as BBC2 normally have a seperate schedule for the weekend nights. But with the possibility of films for weekday nights, that would replace the usual Saturday night movie schedule.

Not so sure I like the concept of more "filler" creeping into BBC2, although I fear this is what Jane Root may be planning.
The post-midnight films on BBC1 often have little merit beyond keeping the transmitters glowing - I would hate to see 2 going down the same route.
This is the channel that for years didn't open until 7.30pm on weekdays - no-one's advocating going that far, but there's little argument for a public service channel simply to fill space for its own sake.
I know I'm pre-judging - maybe BBC2 will conjour up something worthwhile to justify these changes - not long til we find out anyway!
I do hope there will be more time for Go For It in the new zone. I saw the one where they go shopping on CBBC the other day and now I know to carry little pieces of card with the total amount of money I have to spend with me to make sure I have enough.
