New ITV1 idents with no voice-over

Look no further than UTV overnight. (November 2004)

Tis true. It seems whatever feed UTV has gone to tonight, all the ITV1 idents are appearing with no continuity. Indeed the picture tends to break up at the end of one programme, cut to the ITV1 ident, then cut with vision distortion to the next programme - which suggests to me that this is the raw feed from the Southbank - minus voice over or "Subtitles" astoning.

Alas Tuesday night sees overnight coverage of some foreign election Very Happy but it might be worth checking out on Wednesday (or if there's anyone up at this late hour!)

Yes... noticed today between the ITV News at Lunchtime and the ITV Weather a nasty flash on the vision, followed by another nasty flash between the Weather Sponsor Ident and the Weather studio.

I wonder tonight if we will see clean end credits on programmes with no End Credit Promos. May be this is the clean feed that UTV were promised as part of the Carlton/Granada merger. Not a programme clean feed; but a feed minus announcer, Astons, DVEs etc. Perhaps UTV are receiving this semi-clean (semi-dirty) feed instead of the totally dirty feed they have been using.

Also noticed off the back of the ITV Weather that UTV was not able to leave the network feed in time, and so we were treated to a glimpse of some network continuity. UTV then played one of their awful idents for about 12 or 13 seconds (no anno of course). It's a bit of a bad situation that UTV are now toping and tailing breaks with anno-less idents.

...for all the people on this forum who think UTV presentation is great because they still have some Invision Continuity. A good example of the standard of UTV's presentation these days. This was their intro to The Paul O'Grady Show today at 2pm. Note the rare use of an anno in daytime (pre recorded of course, and clipped at the start... for good measure).

Now they've got their clean feed, UTV desperately needs daytime announcers, preferably ones who don't have daytime jobs already. The viewers of Northern Ireland deserve more than four hours of live locally sourced continuity on the province's most popular channel. Passive viewers might not care, but some people do.

And yes, I AM offering my services Wink

btw, Who does the recorded anno into Paul O'Grady? The multi-talented Gilly Porter?

Lol! That's the one advantage of ITV1 over UTV - minimal cock-ups.

i not that the itvi graphic is on the trailer preceding the ident - i was under the impression that utv did not have much to do with interactive content?

As discussed on the Northern Ireland TV thread, I believe UTV are at least promoting ITVi, not 100% sure if they actually offer the interactive services.

If we're talking about tonight's football trailer, I think that ITVi logo (or the "i") might just be already supplied from the NPU... though UTV could ask for a trailer without the bug, I guess.

No. It is Aidan "on your screens" Browne. With a very stilted warning that "viewers should note that this programme was recorded yesterday".

Another night of cock-ups at UTV. They joined Emmerdale late, just in time for the final 3 seconds of the sponsor ad. We were then treated to their all new "flash-bang-wallop" network feed. See video clips for the messy cut back to Emmerdale from the commercial break, the messy end to Emmerdale and the mess that was the intro to the Jenny Bristow programme at 7:30.

And has there been any apology yet?

Who's on duty tonight? Is it our 'Dra?

An apology for jumps in the picture? No, this is the future Col! Sad

I wonder how STV are getting around this clean feed madness - dipping into and out of the network dirty feed until the problems are sorted? Probably. Odd that the bit between the sponsorship sting and the programme should also be jumping about in this way - that suggests it's two separate events on the ITV server, and not one big event...
