If they are going all shiny I cant wait to see the itv1 logo. Im not much for the beveled effect and would love to see a light effect used rather than it having the wierd angled sides.

A bit like they did with the endboard design on 2000-01 using a light effect on the itv logo against the nice lava backing of the blue.

I wonder if the itv1 logo will be split up into squares like the itv2 one? Now that their itv "i" logo has been unveiled it seems as if that's the way their logos will be going in the future, unfortunately, as they look far too similar to the BBC logo for my liking.

Here's what I meant about the lighting hitting the itv logo in the 2000 - 01 endboard logo

I've got a feeling there's a bit of chinese wispers going on here as each page of this thread seems to talk about more and more changes!. What has actually been confirmed?

Nothing's been comfirmed as such to my knowledge.

Someone said that they know of changes to idents, introductions of new ones in september.

The last few pages are peoples sightings such as break boards (last page) in magician's secrets, and endboards of trailers used during night time. Apparently, there are outlines of squares and things are shinier.

The problem with this topic is that it was started by a new member who has only made one post. I don't mean to question the integrity of the user, he may be an insider that doesn't want to say anymore, but all too often they tend to be hoaxers.

Tomorrow would seem a logical date for any changes, and what we DO know is that new celeb idents were being filmed, as Jim Hytner himself has confirmed. The appearance of these new slides may be coincidental or may point to further changes.

However, experience has proven to expect little to avoid disappointment. Laughing

I have a feeling that they are going to refresh the design slightly as they have done before.

What I dont understand is why over past years things have returned after summer on the first monday in september, but with the first monday also being the first this year, itv daytime, CiTV and CBBC all start their new line ups as of next monday!

This is the slide that was used on the overnight film. Quite nice.

They look like the squares used on the computer animated idents before they make the itv1 logo. I hope they can use these in conjunction with a logo similar to that one i posted on the endboard earlier in this thread!

Here's a little piece of information that I think might be relevant: When designers are approached to provide a branding 'package', they don't just design a set of graphics to use "from such a date".

What often happens is that a company will say, "we want to be here in 2 years' time", and ask for a sequence of major changes followed by tweaks which will get them there.

In ITV's case, this "2 years' time" brief could, quite feasibly, have been, "make our logo look as much like the BBC's as possible, but introduce it by stealth, so that it's not obvious that's what we've done".

What would then happen is that a style which includes ELEMENTS of the eventual destination will be launched, but with those elements playing a very small part. Witness the four squares. Right there from Oct 28th last year, yet not prominent in the final logo image. However, ITV2 comes along at a later stage and makes the squares more prominent. ITV1 also uses its generic square settling celeb-less idents more for news and evening progs. Finally, as these elements start to get noticed they are eased into the graphic set that didn't originally make prominent use of them. The end result is that, by apparently following a logical progression that just "by coincidence" makes the ITV logo bear similarities to the BBC's is something that can be explained away as just that - a "coincidence". Marketing people are very secretive about what is happening with their brands, not usually to hide why they've done what they're doing now (because it's a starting point and not the destination of their policy) , but to stop people second guessing about what they're planning to do months or a year down the line as it appears to develop "naturally".

The screen grabs shown above are pretty clear indications that this is what is happening, and the original 'bevelled edge' ITV1 logo brought in on Oct 28th was just a cover - a decoy, as it were, to act as a smokescreen to the longer-term plan.

It certainly is beginning to seem that way... But it's strange though - what do they think they're going to gain from making their logo look like the BBC's? It'll just make people think that they're desperate, or just can't be bothered to be distinctive!
