who cares about that, firstly they are two completly seperate channels, and the time difference is slightly far away. it isnt about who can make the most spectacular idents, its the channel identity in itself. we are discussing the new ITV1 look, no comparing them to the good old past idents which doesnt even link to each other in any way or form.

Jord.tv - thank you for your contribution. You seem to have completely misunderstood the point I was trying to make.
The idents that are now being shown on ITV are stale, generic, and boring, and In six months to a years time, will looks crusty and out of place, and will need to be replaced.
The concept of channel identiy is not renewing your idents every few months, but by developing a long lasting and future proof identity. At least in the case of the Two's this was achieved, they lasted for 11 years, and still don't look out of place. The current ITV set, like the previous will look tired and boring within a year.
I know you young boys are impressed by wizzy animations, I was when I was young, I used to be so very impressed by the Channel 3 Yorkshire spinning 3 a few years ago, but I came across it when I was looking through my VHS collection for some pornography I realised how incredibly dire it was. If you can't see what I am trying to say to you now, you will eventually.
yeah i think i get u, maybe i was a bit harsh sorry. i did think the ones that was back in 2002 was going stale, its like GMTV, they established an idenity and kept it since its outing in 2003. but i do like the new ones, i understand them might looking older in the coming year but a varstly improvement on the previous ones.
I like how itv have kept the same basic logo since 1998, but keep updating their image. It adds something fresh every now and then. Look at how CiTV has kept their logo since 1998 and just keeps altering it slightly to keep interest. Its a good way to go as then you get people talking.
Just an example of many fine idents created over the years, and if anybody thinks that the sterile rubbish released by ITV today comes even close to any of those above, then I'm afraid you are wrong.
It all comes down to opinion, and I hate every ident you posted up there on the other page, tacky and horrible, but I actually admire very much the idents shown today, the music is fantastic, love the deep, rocky feel and the generic idents look good. I think they will be able to last some time.
ITV are definally good at making relaunch promos, what with this new one, last October's and also the recent ITV2 one. All those people tuning in for Trisha will have worked out that something new is going on.
Its nice to see this new look is generally well received and there was actual excitement in this thread!. The new look in October suffered from the legacy of LWT's last day and all that stuff, so this new look can definally be taken on face value without any emotional baggage so to speak!
will the programmes be getting rid of the old backgrounds or keeping them? I know they tie in the generic ITV look but doesnt match ITV1 no more. It isnt a good idea to take the new squares I dont think as there will be too much of them in the ECP and clash.

The credit backgrounds do still kind of match, as theres that 'scratch' along the top which matches the one in the actual ITV1 logo
I presume they didnt switch the EPG on to fill the black after Tonight with Trevor Mc.
Coronation Street it was nice how they shownt the stars over the pub, but I didnt like how they cut into it and cut to the normal blue background, they could have faded it, but it was cut! Look awful!

The new idents are an improvment, but stupid ITV having idents that need replacing constantly! When Pop Idol is over, then they have lost another few idents, and need new ones because a new show has produced some more famous faces! I loved the promo at 9.25am this morning, fantastic, I like, not sure if it was as good as the original promo with the 'Thats Entertainment' song on it, but still good.
The new bumper and EPG thing at the end of the programmes is worse though, the new darker background seems to remind me of the spinning heart phase of ITV1's presentation, and everyone knows that theres no going backward in coming forward! lol.
Overall good work ITV1, apart from the dingyness of the background graphics, the bright and airy idents are good though, perhaps the darkness is to emulate winter
