Has anyone just seen the National Television Awards credits shown just now on ITV1?!?
The credits roll up aligned on the left hand side with images of the show shown on the right, looks very swish I have to say!

Could this be a sign of things to come? I hope so!

I think they were just designed for the National Television Awards because they used the same graphics etc that were in use throughout the programme. They were quite nice though!

Yeah, somehow the NTA get away with non-generic credits each year. Always works very well keeping the same look as the programme.

I understand ITV forcing black credits on programmes - certainly makes show the programme in later years not look out of place - but wouldn't it be nicer if they live overlaid the black sparkles background?

It was so nice to see a credit sequence in full wthout any voiceover or graphical overlay for a change. It just seemed refreshingly clean and uncluttered.

Maybe one day some bright marketing type will realise the blindingly obvious truth that bombarding the viewer with constant shouty messages to view this, view that, click on this, watch that again, stay tuned for, press red, watch this later... actually is just overload, and leaves the viewer bewildered and none the wiser.

Completely agree Spencer. I voted in the poll for the NTA credits - because it's not the sort of thing ITV generally does; if programmes must have generic-style credits, then why not in a font suitable for the programme, and with a dimmed background (i.e. cobbles for Coronation Street, so on)?

I agree with that, in a way I like ITV's credits and credit squeezes as they back up the ITV brand using the font, etc. and are easy to read, but sometimes it would be a nice change to see something a bit different. I always think that Channel 4 have the right idea by having the credits on the left, they can overlay their info on the right or not, and it doesn't affect the credits at all.

And how nice it was to see nothing over the top of the credits, hopefully E4 will learn from what they seem to have been doing with Dead Set, Channel 4 will then carry it out, and networks will follow. I'm not saying do away with them altogether, but reduce them. Saying that though, years ago all a regional announcer had to plug was the next programme, possibly a programme on channel 4, and possibly a teletext page.

I'm thinking now it would be best to do something similar to the US and have a short burst of full screen core credits (Executive Producer etc.) and then either switch to an ECP format for the rest - or take a 20-second break from the credits for a trailer and then play out the remaining credits full screen.

Who's been voting for "Black"? Those are by far the dullest style credits I've ever seen!
