Welcome to the web page of BBC Look East for viewers in East Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, North Nottinghamshire and North Norfolk. BBC Look North previously served this area from the BBC Leeds Studio Centre. Look East serves the area covered by the Belmont transmission area, as shown by the map below, from the BBC's brand new studios in Hull City Centre.

When is Look East on?

Every day BBC Look East comes from our studios in Hull at the following times:

· During "Breakfast" on BBC ONE East (Hull). These bulletins are on every half an hour and are presented by Helen McDermott.

· At 1.30pm on BBC ONE East (Hull). Helen McDermott presents this bulletin.

· At 6.30pm on BBC ONE East (Hull). This is presented by our main presenters, Clare Frisby and Mike McCarthy.

· At 10.25pm during the BBC 10 o'clock News. Helen Philpot presents this bulletin.

· At weekends, Helen Philpot presents the Saturday evening bulletin of Look East and Helen McDermott presents the Sunday evening bulletin.


The Presenters of Look East

Clare Frisby

For many years, Clare was a co-presenter on Look North (Leeds) first with Mike McCarthy, then with Harry Gration. With the arrival of Christa Ackroyd in 2001, Clare ceased to be co-presenter of Look North but she became the presenter of the Hull opt-out of Look North, the predecessor of Look East (Hull).

Clare is therefore a natural choice for co-presenter of Look East and she is now reunited with Mike McCarthy.

Mike McCarthy

Until the arrival of Harry Gration in 1999, Mike was co-presenter of Look North (Leeds) with Clare Frisby. Mike then moved to Sky News and he was a reporter for the channel.

With the start of Look East from the BBC's new studios in Hull, Mike became co-presenter of the main 6.30pm programme with Clare Frisby.

Helen Philpot

After working on BBC Local Radio, Helen became the presenter of the 10.25pm bulletin of Look North for viewers served by the Belmont transmitter. Now, with the introduction of Look East from the BBC's new Hull studios she presents the 10.25pm edition of Look East during the BBC Ten o'clock News. She also presents the Saturday evening bulletin of Look East.

Helen McDermott

Originally a continuity announcer at Westward Television in Plymouth, Helen joined Anglia Television in Norwich for whom she was initially an announcer.

Before in-vision continuity ended, Helen became a presenter of Anglia News East and other regional programmes made by the company. She ceased to present Anglia News in early 2002, but she still presented the regional programme "A Date with Helen".

Helen joined BBC Look East when the BBC's new studios at Hull opened and she now presents the breakfast and lunchtime bulletins on weekdays. She also presents the Sunday evening edition of Look East.

Yorkshire Television’s long-serving weather forecaster moved to BBC Look East when the new Hull studios opened. He has had over twenty years experience at the Met Office and he now forecasts on the 1.30pm and 6.30pm bulletins.

Hey guys and girls, why haven't you replied? AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHH!!!!! Sorry, rant over. Oh yes if Mike McCarthy is away, Clare could present with Helen McDermott at 6.30pm and Helen Philpot could present the 1.30pm bulletin, allowing Helen McDermott to have a little kip. She'd need it after presenting the Breakfast bulletins if she had to cover for Clare or Mike at 6.30 à la Peter Levy.

I can't reply, I'm too much full of hatred when I think about it. Anyhows, I suggested a line-up of Clare Frisby and Tom Ingall to Kate Watkins when I went.

At least with Tom Ingall, there'll be a pair of cute eyes to look at. And Please BBC, put some banter into the pre-recorded weather forecasts with Paul Hudson PLEASE!!

What's wrong with Mike McCarthy, Katherine? Why don't you like Clare Frisby? I can't see Christa Ackroyd or Harry Gration moving over to Hull to present Look East. Plus, the forecasts with Paul Hudson will only last until Hull is fully divorced from Leeds. Then, there would be a need for a new forecaster on Look East (Hull), probably on the 1.30pm bulletin with Helen McDermott and the 6.30pm bulletin with Clare and Mike.

You never know, Katherine, if you give Look East (Hull) a try when it comes on, you might like the banter between the weather forcaster and Helen McDermott/Claire and Mike. So, I'll sign off and think who might be Look East (Hull)'s weather forecaster........

What do you know, S4Ci, living there in Welsh Wales? Stranger things have happened like Christa Ackroyd leaving Calendar to join Look North (Leeds) or even Helen McDermott leaving Anglia TV to join Look East (Hull).

Is Ms Blythe a qualified weather forecaster? The BBC only employ meteorologists, most of ITV's (with exceptions such as Jon Mitchell) are presenters not forecasters.

I don't think Jo Blythe is a fully trained meteorologist.

OK then, how about Jon Mitchell instead? I'll have to go and revise that earlier post.......

I wouldn't bother David. I have heard it from Look North top brass that we are to receive recorded forecasts by Paul Hudson for the time being. Let the future take care of itself.

By the time someone else is recruited, I could very well be studying Media or Journalism at university, HOPEFULLY somewhere in South, West or North Yorkshire.

I posted this mock earlier in the week in the Mocks forum, but i guess its pretty applicable here.

I read that the regions might be heading to a similar style as LDN, so heres what I think the new Look North/East from Hull might look like.
