I've not heard the bit in question but I don't see the problem with it, in real life normal conversation if someone is really greatfull it would be a normal thing to keep saying thanks almost to a point it becomes awkward. People see breakfast radio presenters as their friend it's meant to be personal and real. Now doubt if he didn't say thanks but was just talking up he figures you'd be having a go at him for being arrogant. Because you've listened just to find fault and score a point regardless to what he said.
Tonight's episode featured more features/reviews, and more presenters. It was interesting to note that Matt appeared to be doing more of the studio pieces, with Chris seeming to take a more backseat role.
Thought it was a lot better tonight. The reports were proper old school Top Gear. Though that's not what viewers have been used to the last few years, most people (myself) included watched for the entertaining films

Breaking News:
Taking a back seat role: Chris Evans' on-screen time on Top Gear plummets with each new episode as he leaves reviews to his new more popular co-hosts
That would always have been the plan - gradually introduce the team over the first few episodes rather than have everyone turn up on the first. That means that Evans would have appeared more in the first couple, his work schedule wouldn't allow him to do that much for the whole series
When it comes to ratings perhaps more interesting is the 7 day stats are now available via the Barb website...
- Episode 1 (w/e 29 May): 6.42 million (4.3m overnight)
- Episode 2 (w/e 5 June): 4.06 million (2.8m overnight)
The figures suggest quite a considerable amount of viewers are watching via catchup and other means. So the overall ratings for Top Gear aren't quite as bad as the press are trying to make out.
