Just listened to Monday's Radio 2 breakfast show on iPlayer, and Chris Evans, somehow managed to say thank you to his listeners for watching Top Gear 5 times in 1 MINUTE.

That's quite impressive, considering he wasn't in.

Sorry, got mixed up. It was sometime this week though.

I've not heard the bit in question but I don't see the problem with it, in real life normal conversation if someone is really greatfull it would be a normal thing to keep saying thanks almost to a point it becomes awkward. People see breakfast radio presenters as their friend it's meant to be personal and real. Now doubt if he didn't say thanks but was just talking up he figures you'd be having a go at him for being arrogant. Becuase you've listened just to find fault and score a point regardless to what he said.

I saw it last night and it was better than I expected to be honest. The challenges were fairly low key and the introduction of the new dirt track race course was a pleasant surprise. One minor gripe was Le Blanc's commentary, He sounded like he was half asleep!.

7 out of 10.

Matt's natural speaking voice seems to be that gravelly, mellow/bored tone that was evident when he was on The Graham Norton Show. While I don't think it suits a voiceover, there is a certain charm to it.

Oh yes. I'm not saying he was a bad speaker just not suitable for V/O

OK finally managed to get around to watching it all today. Benefit of being on iPlayer is I could skip past the whole off-road thing in Morocco which doesn't interest me in the slightest. The UK v USA challenge was poor, and I don't like the two blokes plus bit part woman segment. I appreciate perhaps Sabine Schmitz has other commitments that preclude her from having a more full time role, but if it's just going to be the Chris & Matt show, then I fear that won't be enough for it to survive. Both leads need to work on their narration style. Evans needs to remember this is NOT a morning radio show, and LeBlanc needs to remember that we're not all Friends fans who just like the way he says things.

Positives : They've kept everything good about the last series.
Negatives : They've changed everything good about the last series. SIARPC didn't need to change, and I can't see the rallycross segment appealing or sustainable, especially in bad weather. The studio is now too big and too cavernous.

4/10.

Intriguingly, Danny Baker was absent from the credits of tonight's episode. This is after he posted to Twitter that he was not a writer but simply an 'advisor' to the show. Although he tweeted during tonight's programme so I think he's still working on it:

Something I noticed at the very end of the programme, that was possibly on last week's and I missed, is that as well as the usual BBC.co.uk address they also link to the programme's Facebook page. Annoyingly inconsistent though when it comes to using the www:

bbc.co.uk/topgear
www.facebook.com/topgear

Really hope the ratings rise tonight just to put some people in their place, although in reality I suspect Soccer Aid will take more viewers from it than the Soap Awards did.

Seems that Chris shouting is still the main complaint - something Clarkson never did of course. The foundations are there though for a solid revival - they probably just need to whittle down the 7 to 3-4 - based on the reaction to Extra Gear Rory and Chris Harris should probably be part of the main team.

I thought this week's Extra Gear was a bit flat actually. The audience didn't seem particularly enthused about the subject matter of, well, cars, and again there seemed to be lots of noticeable cuts. I presume this is to fit into what seems to be the regular duration of ~24 minutes.

Facebook have been known to do weird things if you don't use the "www". It's not optional *unless* your site is set up to behave like that. So while the BBC can guarantee that "bbc.co.uk/whatever" is a valid address, they can't do the same with Facebook.
