Fascinating to see the 1st episode of 'new' Top Gear again - did they forget to invite the audience?! Reminded me a bit of early "Later..." programmes where the studio was dotted with a few crew members and one or two musos. And my, how the studio lighting has changed since then! That show may as well have been under flourescent strips! For me, TG is now a bit too dark, but at least there's plenty of mood and shape to the space, which there wasn't back then.

Well they showed the last series within a fortnight of its airing on BBC 2 - i.e. they showed episode 1 of the series on Dave at 6:00pm on the same Sunday that episode 3/4 of the series was on BBC2.
But they're ALSO showing repeats of the just-gone series on BBC2 as well - I watched the cheap Alfa-Romeo challenge ep t'other day... curious.

Dave will be showing the newest series of Top Gear from 5.00pm Sunday, they even showed the Dave joke during the Trailer for it.
Considering it finished on BBC Two about a month ago I'm surprised it's got on Dave/UKTV really quickly.

The first episode is great in many ways. It's a much more relaxed, less scripted show with a lot more studio time with studio features.
It's also less glossy. You can actually see Hammond walking back and forth in the background as Clarkson is talking waiting for his piece to come up. But yeah as you say the lighting is very bright and blanket. Makes the studio look a lot smaller.

Lots of coverage in today's Irish newspapers about the launch of Top Gear Live (with Clarkson and Co driving a tank around London!), which is happening in the Royal Dublin Society in November (London will have it before then though). The exoribitant €75 price is a bit off-putting though.

Well you could always apply for tickets for a recording of the show, but there is an estimated 21 year waiting list.
