Just in case anyone doesn't know (it might be posted elsewhere, sorry if it is)
Crown Castle have managed to fit another channel on Freeview (up to 18 hours per day) and it could be available for broadcast by april 1st. They have invited potential bidders, so who do uou think will get it? ITV4 perhaps??

Don't ITV need space for the News Channel?

No - because they are currently implementing the improved compression etc on their multiplex which will fit the News Channel in.

It obviously works because viewers in London already get both ITV3 and ITVNC in ITV's half of the Digital3&4 mux.

Doesn't that mean further loss of picture quality?

They say the futures digital, but sometimes you get a better ITV picture on analogue.

But do they have the space to put E4 and the proposed More 4?

Channel 4 has as much space as ITV does. If ITV manages to get 4 channels into its (just under) half of the mux, then potentially C4 could do the same.

not sure but this is what is currently on mux 2
itv1, itv2, itv3, itv nc(when its fixed)
ch4, teletext(channel9), teletext on 4, teletext tv guide, teletext C (which i presume will be for ITV teletext)
then there is e4, uk food and bloomberg (which share 1 channel space -I think)

Are ITV planning to take the teletext service on all platforms? What if they wanted to move ITVi onto freeview? If they bought this extra channel space could they split it with a possible ITV4 and ITVi?

Teletext on ITV is launching on sky and freeview in the early summer and im guessing it will be using Teletext space rather than ITV space. ITVi hasn't really got much content and the content it does have relies on a telephone connection so i cant see them launching it on DTT as it is now. But i still think ITV will certainly be bidding for the space even if they dont use it at the moment- they would be mad not to
