Never mind that - the contestants need to be closer to the host and Dictionary Dell so they don't have to show *each other* their answers for verification.
I don't see a problem with that, if the other player is happy that their opponent got what they declared then that's all that really matters.
Indeed. The theme tune and clock music had its first major change to my knowledge in 1989 (the titles used from 1991 with this arrangement can be seen here). Then in 1996, along with those titles you posted above, they introduced the current arrangement of the theme tune and updated the clock music by "jazzing it up". This was only short lived and they soon returned to the 1989 arrangement of the clock music, which is still in use today as far as I can tell.
The new clock music must have been really hated. I was in the studio audience in Leeds for two episodes in 1996 when they used the new music, which at the time hadn't been broadcast and was new to us. By the time the episodes went out, they'd edited them and replaced the clock music with the previous version.
Wonder if they will update the winners' teapot, which still looks like the set before the one which is being replaced, with the subtle YTV Chevron inspired design.
I personally would LOVE to hear a re-vamp of the Main Theme and Clock music. It has been in use now since the 90's! Surely its time to give the theme and clock a little modernisation?
Also would of been good to maybe change the clock face. The clock face over the years has only really been changed with the Blue outlines of the face and pointer however, it does look pretty good considering its an old design.
I remember the 1996 fiasco over the re-vamped Clock music that only lasted 12 episodes due to the complaints the clock music was distracting the views from the game. LOL.
The more I watch "Catsdown" the more I wonder how they can continue with the original. Rachel must be dying inside knowing she could be having a much better time.
On an unrelated note, I didn't realise until now just how long the theme tune and clock music have been used for! Wouldn't have thought the current music dated back to the mid 90s.

I don't understand why Cats is still doing Countdown. As a one off it worked but why is it still going? Isn't it just an excuse to be a cruder version of Countdown?

It still does good in the ratings, I still find it funny if that helps.

Quite simple ratings for 8 out of 10 cats does countdown is bigger than 8 out of 10 cats. On BARB Catsdown is getting between 1.5 to 3 million on Friday nights and even getting 1.3 million when the series was moved to Saturday nights last year sometimes overlapping with X Factor and the show is constantly in Channel 4 top 5 programmes when broadcast. The last series of normal 8 out of 10 cats which was broadcast on Channel 4 in late 2014 before the move to More4 was just scraping into Channel 4 30 most watched programmes for that particular week averaging less than 1 million and constantly getting beaten by the Simpsons.
