New Christmas Ident for BBC1 in 2004?

A request to another website receives positive answer! (July 2004)

I asked a host on another TV forum if they knew if BBC1 would be having a new ident for Christmas this year and this was their reply:
"We re-used the previous years ident because they were so popular and we wanted to give viewers a another chance to see them last Christmas. Re-using the idents from Christmas 2002 was also very cost effective so this in itself was a good thing. However, it is HIGHLY LIKELY that there will be a new ident this year but it is too soon to be more precise."

I just thought this would interest many pres fans as it was a little disappointing to not have a new one last year. What do others think?

(Incidentally, the website was www.bbc.co.uk and the forum was Points of View and the reply was from one of the hosts.)

I tell you what. Try and enjoy summer first and *then* worry about it.

Summer? We've had summer! Outlook fo July is wet and occasionally stormy. I wasn't "Worrying" about it. Just interested. Thought that TV conversations are a little dull at present so thought I'd give us something interesting to talk about. After all in eight weeks time it will be September! By the way, I'm one of them "odd" people who doesn't really like summer. I severely struggle in the heat and it sets my asthma off! Anyway, DAS, if you enjoy summer then fair play to you and I hope we get a few more sunny days so that we can see those topless babes again. So Have a good summer and enjoy your hols if you havn't yet had one.

Tsk Steve. I thought you were a married man, you saucebottle.

Anyhoo - what do you mean there is *another* TV Forum. Have we been getting cloned in our sleep?

I think we should be told.

Sorry! There isn't another "TV forum" of course there can be only one! I was referring to the "Points of View discussion Site" and apologise for any confusion.

With regards to being married, what the missus don't see me looking at don't hurt! God she don't let me have many perks! Don't even get to have my own money! Bless her. Besides, she NEVER goes topless.

Well if they've got any more like that up their sleeve they can keep them.

I think the 'current' BBC One Christmas ident should continue to be shown until for as long as it doesn't appear dated.

IMHO it doesn't look dated, and could become something of a tradition itself.

I hope it is shown for a third time this December.

Spoof idea:

Drunken Santa Claus doing the Cha-Cha, and humming the BBC-tune to himself while making various comments underneath his breath.

So many possibilities ... Wink

Or, more seriously, there could be a series of Christmas greetings from British soldiers stationed in Iraq with the BBC One logo at the bottom and some sort of "Merry Christmas" message. I rather like that better. And, a Now-Next-Then slide could be used to provide programming information.

I actually think that the snowflake Kids Christmas Ident already looks dated and can only survive IF a new additional one was added. If the current was kept with the kids falling from the sky, then perhaps an extra one of the kids skipping around a snowman could be added.

The length of time the idents are shown now dates them very quickly and by New Year's Day this year I was sick to death of the Christmas ident as it had been used for two years and was looking tired. So, if it is going to be re-used, it needs to be updated and added to.

Good Idea it could be filmed in the Essex town of Romford, the worst place for drunken violence according to the metropolitan police
