New channels on Sky?

The rumours that HBO will sign a deal with BSkyB on launching version of the channel.

The channel would be managed, programmed and broadcast by Sky but would draw on the extensive programming library and resources of HBO. It is thought that some acquired and original UK content would feature.

Sky will also provide $175m (£104m) to co-produce new programmes.

HBO will have a 50% stake in HBO UK.

Also launching on Sky is a UK version of The Weather Channel.

The Weather Channel will broadcast at 6am-11am, sharing with Sky Sports Xtra which will cut back hours.

Nick Jr.2 takes over The Weather Channel from 11am-4am, handing over to Sky Travel Extra at 4pm-8pm.

HBO UK will broadcast at 8pm-4am (Mondays to Wednesday) and 1am-4am (Thursdays to Sundays).

Sky Sports Xtra will broadcast at 8pm-1am (Thursdays to Fridays) and 7am-1am (Saturdays to Sundays).

The single transponder channel will be called Channel 230

It is rumoured that Broadcast magzine will report next Thursday on the new channels.

HBO have aquired licenses under the name HBO UK, so it's more than possible. As for having all the channels timesharing, I think it's very unlikely, especially with the bandwidth available, and that two of those channels already have their own streams.

HBO AIUI want to launch in the UK, but I thought they were going more VOD about this rather than actually launching a channel, isn't some of their stuff going to appear on Virgin anyway?

They wouldn't have enough content anyway as Channel 4 seem to hold most of the broadcasting rights to HBO shows.
