I was thinking:
"There is something missing in this. What is it tha makes it not look like an 'ident'‽ It doesn' need a box with a super-imposed logo.";

then I thought:

"It is perfect!";

whilst I was watching a 'C.4'. ident.

Channel 4 have really laid down the gauntlet with their idents, even the 2 is nowhere near as good as what Channel 4 is doing.

Hmmm...I don't really agree personally. Whilst what C4 are doing is really, really good, the 2 was bolder, cheekier and a more 'traditional' ident as opposed to a scene which briefly shows the logo. Not taking a single thing away from a truly excellent series of idents (and presentation in general) but the old 2 is still the one for me.

Rob, I know a few members have commented on this but what is it with the over usage of punctuation? It just makes your posts harder to read.

I think the current 4's are great and look the best of all the idents on TV at the moment they are fresh and just have you thinking what's going to happen now. The current 2's don't have that but the original 2's did. Because of the insistance of computer graphics, the yellow & white colour scheme and the theme the creatibity that was their hallmark has been lost. Those 2's still look great now ad are the only idents that can really go toe to toe with Channel 4's in terms of brilliance. However the thing I like about the new Channel 4 idents are that they are on a grand scale, I can't quite put it into words but there's something about them that is epic. Even the classic 2's don't have that epic quality.

Does anybody understand what I'm trying to say? Confused

I do think the dockyard ident is the best, both the graphics and eerie music. I dont know if it has been mentioned but has it been revealed where it was filmed? it reminds me of Southampton.

I think C4 is currently on top, in my view of all the terrestrial channels. The great idents, font and general presentation is good, but also the programming side with countdown, deal or no deal, richard and judy, bb etc

Felixstowe port is where this ident takes place.
One of the BBC1 balloon idents was filmed there too.

It's true. Channel 4 just cannot be beaten. It's programming is interesting, different, and challenging! And its presentation is fresh and distinctive. I want to work for Channel 4 when I'm older!

I understand you perfectly, but your last comment suggests the classic 2's don't quite compare to Channel 4's current set. If that's what you're saying, then I disagree with you.

I feel the 91 - 01 2's were better than what C4 offers now; not only in terms of idents which were often visually bold, with a clear, striking symbol and wonderful soundtracks (plus a sheer huge amount came and went), but also in the additional stings, which gave so much character to the channel. They had idents with impact which had a dramatic feel, and used real 2's which really gave it an edge.

The current lot on BBC TWO might not be quite as good, but as has been said they are more traditional and bold, and I'm quite fond of that.
