I'm only 12! kdding.. What I'm trying to say was the presentation was a lot more slick during the period I mentioned. I wasn't targeting my post on the target age range but on the way the presentation looks. Gawd knows what they were thinking when they did the all yellow presentation in the late 90's that was ghastly.
Personally speaking on a PRESENTATION front, the current idents don't do much for me. The studio is nice though

I am sick of hearing grown adults chiming in saying how they think things should look. They are not trying to get you as a viewer, its what the little 5-9 year olds want.
This need to see old graphics back in use, is just nostalgia and not a real thought for what the viewers expect and want.

It may not look on first glance that different to before, but in actual fact all of the graphics have changed. The biggest change is the axing of the bugs - which I think is ashame, as they were CBBC's mascot, and could have kept going forever! They seem to have been replaced by some sort of tangled ball of arrows, which in my opinion, is nowhere near as versatile or fun as the bugs were. The new idents may look quite nice, but they are so limited in terms of versatility. They are also weak, in that the only part of them with a sense of purpose is the logo - the swirly things are just there to look nice, and don't mean anything, unlike the old bug environments which actually illustrated a story, of some description.
It seems to me a lot like change for change's sake - the new controller making her mark on CBBC. I thought the bugs would run for a long time to come - and the old logo really was fine. To my mind, the new logo looks more childish than the old one, as if it is aimed at an even younger audience. The old logo had a bit more "attitude".
The one improvement is the DOG on the CBBC channel, which is much better than before. Though I'm not keen on the drop shadow effect of the BBC logo.
EDIT: Also, is it just me, or does the new font look a lot like the font which CiTV are using at the moment? It's an ok font, but the CBBC blobs font was so unique to CBBC, and in my mind was perfect for it.

A big improvement on the current logo.
You think?
It probably needs seeing in a proper animated way, but the C doesn't look like it fits well on the blob.
At least it's a round C and not a triangular C - I never really liked the old one

Bless you, Simon. I think it's probably safe to move yourself forward 20 years now.
The nasty, mean in-vision presenters won't bite you.
Probably.
It is fair to say that I'm a tad biased with my fascination for BBC presentation devices. However, I also felt that by using the same presentation into Blue Peter as would be seen into Top Of The Pops, the BBC was treating everyone equally.
Standard pres for CBBC today would have several advantages; 4:3 programmes would stand more chance of being shown in the correct aspect ratio (imagine the fury if Only Fools And Horses was cropped) and less opportunity to mess with end credits.
The money saved could be ploughed back into the CBBC budget, for more original shows and less acquired animation. And the presenters could easy find new homes within the programmes.

Well I always associated with "some disembodied voice" over the BBC1 globe and saw no reason why they had to "fix" the situation in 1985.

Although it was a while before I realised what the Broom Cupboard actually was. When I first saw it, I thought it was a mock-DJ type set designed to give a "hip" appeal to the young audience, like CITV and its "rocket ship" etc. After the Great Storm of 1987, when Nicholas Witchell presented the news from a bare broom cupboard, I guessed there might be more to it.
It was not until TVS' The Television Show, which interviewed the BBC1 announcer, did I learn the truth about NC1.

Personally, I thought the introduction of the 'broom cupboard' was a marvellous thing for us presentation fanatics. We got to see quite a bit of the behind-the-scenes workings and with the anorak tendencies of the likes of Phillip Schofield and Andi Peters, I think the beeb earned a few brownie points from us enthusiasts.

End credits? These days, CBBC often have the opening titles squashed in a box while the presenters jabber on!

The main thing i don't like about the new idents is theres no music like CiTV since Jan 04. It flies past the arrow thing and it just makes a weird sound effect. They're not that diferrent either. There's only two idents, that weird one and the ending one [even if it did get rid of the Sep 03 one!].
Even if they were only different coloured backgrounds it would improve them.Maybe there's more to it then what i saw after D&D.Maybe they'll do it gradually so maybe new graphics tomorrow, then new set. I dunno!

That is seriously taking the mick.
Going even further off topic, I noticed during the summer Even Stevens went out in full 4:3 on two consecutive mornings. 16:9 pres returned after the programme. Was this because of a distributor's directive?
