Well, these look far more promising than I expected, so it'll all come down to the execution and, of course, the music.
Yes, hopefully a good music jingle or some appropriate soundtrack. Although I sense a series of those quiet natural soundtracks that UK Gold and Five were so keen on using a short while ago.
Those top images with the 4's on white look nice, and a totally different to the print version even though they're pratically the same thing.
Those three top images do remind me of T4 2003 style on a white background when the different parts came together to form the logo, where as now the logo's the same, except surrounded by white that it spins inside, and also bounces everywhere.
Anyway, enough of that, it does look promising. I like the way that you have some things on white and others in the image, so that it doesn't focus centrally on a blank palette.
I think these look fantastic.
http://www.rp-networkservices.com/tvforum/uploads/new_c4_idents.jpg As someone said, the top row are clearly the breakbumpers and below are two examples of the idents. They look very exciting, and there's 15 of them! Have to wait and see about the "bold" text (sounds like even bigger text on screen!) but it all looks like it's worth looking forward to.
Fanatastic. The best set of idents since BBC2 's Big 2 (Circia 1991-2001). Hope these look great animated. However even so they have more imagination than any other on screen. Isn't it ironic that the two so called "minority" channels have the best idents. Channel 5's new idents look good even if they do have that rather dull font.
These new Channel 4 idents look as though they could last for a few years as well!
From the Digital Spy article, it looks as if the top line of images are some of the breakbumpers, and the others (pylon and field) the actual idents. I think they look very promising - the only thing is the seeming lack of camera movement in the screenshots (and I know you can't tell this for sure from the still images) - I would like to see some interesting camera work in them, and a bit more sweeping movement than we are used to seeing (how much better could BBC One's idents have been if some more imagination had been put into the camerawork?).
I'd
like
to think that someone somewhere has seen a set of mocks I created about a year ago!!
I have my doubts, I like the simple clean miimalist style of Channel 4 at present. These Idents seem quite like a mish mash from the images so far, but the break bumpers are nice...
I will make judgements after they have settled on screen...
Just an observation I've made - could be jumping up the wrong tree here, but Big Brother usually sticks to C4's credit rules.
However, the Big Brother Panto credits are centred on screen, with the end-cap also centred and no C4/E4 logo.
Just wondering if C4 are going to change their ECP and adapt a similar style to ITV?
To answer my own question, the new credit guidelines are that the credits will be in a 14:9 safe frame on the left half of the screen on either programme images or a black screen, with a white panel on the right for information and promos.
The 3-second endcap features the producers logo on the left half of the screen, over the same image as used in the credits. The C4 logo is no longer required on the RHS, but the overlay will remain.
