I don't however like the channel 4 continuity menus, where they overlay upcoming programme detail over those white animating backgrounds. All looks a bit messy and something of a mistake to me. Especially as the text appears to be on-screen earlier than the background allows its clear visibility.

What - the new menus are one of the best aspects of the new look (though I'm thankful C4 didn't use them as idents!).
Is the ident we're refering to as 'New York' really New York - as I'm certain that one of the buildings you can make out on the side resembles the Bonnaventure Hotel in Los Angeles? (its a cylindrical collection of glass towers and has featured in True Lies - where Arnie rides a horse into the glass lifts, also features in In the line of fire with Clint Eastwood). Also you do find yellow cabs in LA, so could it be?

The new C4 idents are great - Modifying pieces of objects from an existing outside location to form the '4' - There are potentially tons of settings and ideas that could be used for this, I wonder if we will see additions to the set this time next year?
As for the current BBC 2 idents and how long they'll last...
The fact that the colour schemes never change, and that the majority rely on (now worn-out) humour or jokes - not the best prospects for longevity...
... I'm not saying they won't last as long as the 90's 2's (although IMO they were top-class), but I wouldn't be surprised if they added a new ident to the set soon, or as time goes on, added new ones and remove others.
Not sure how many agree with me on this, but... my favourites from the current '2' set are:
Fire
Bounce (I much prefer the more orchestral version (D?))
and my most favourite, Invisible Walls
Coincidentally, they are among the less jokey idents.
I don't see Drum (the one with the Reggae soundtrack) anymore, why?

It was originally made for a Jamaica season on the channel a few years back, but the ident got used alot after the season had ended.
I don't mind the new Channel 4 idents, but they take quite a while to form up and the '4' doesn't last on-screen for long enough. Though these idents do have a great chance of being developed well, like the boxed 4. Though I don't like the version of the logo they use on Channel 4 News, it would look better if the shadow was coming from a different direction, like it's used in the breakbumpers.
Also, all this stuff about "If the dancers last as long as the balloons" and "If the new BBC TWO symbols last as long as the previous ones" is completely irrelevant; that's not how it works. No one's diary has an entry in it saying "19/7/06 Remember to rebrand BBC ONE"!
Right,so ITV1 should rebrand on 5th November 2006 and Channel 4 in 2008 or 2009 then!
