I do apologise if this has already been mentioned.

In next weeks Radio Times dated 29/1/05 - 4/2/05, in the Television section edidted by Alison Graham, did anyone notice a short snippet about her praising the new C4 idents? It was under the heading "Why we love.. the C4 idents"

I must say I couldn't agree more with her. They're fantastic compared to the 4 squares. She said that something similar should happen to BBC2. But then again, if the current "2s" last as long as the previous ones, a new set of them won't be due until August 2012.

They are wonderful.

What has just struck me is that the idea is the same as ITV's hearts idents in 1998, except for the fact that the items made up the hearts rather than the logo.

I think the reason they work is they are not at all "in your face" like most other channels.

They just quietly creep on to the screen and quietly end. They serve their purpose very well, but in a way are not even noticable.

Which is a stupid comment, really. Why would the BBc want something similar to idents of a rival. Especially when you consider that the 2s (in their current and previous forms) have been amongst the most successful ident packages (and effectively, originally, relaunch of a channel and its image) ever.

True but a couple of new ones are needed soon as some look a bit tired (domino, Drip)

I've never understood this sort of comment. How exactly do you think they look tired?

Indeed - and it's interesting how symbols which were used in every junction (e.g. the BBC1 globe and the BBC2 '=2=') weren't thought of as 'tired'.

Also, all this stuff about "If the dancers last as long as the balloons" and "If the new BBC TWO symbols last as long as the previous ones" is completely irrelevant; that's not how it works. No one's diary has an entry in it saying "19/7/06 Remember to rebrand BBC ONE"!

The channel 4 idents have caught my interest too.
Am I right in believing the locations are all real; ie no special effects ?

If so, how the heck did they find those locations that just happened to imitate a '4' at a certain angle?
