You are correct.

Quote:
BT has unveiled its new BT Sport logo ahead of the company’s sports channel launch this summer.

Developed by Red Bee Media, the new logo is a mix of the BT Connected World brand imagery with a new font introduced specifically for the brand. The left hand corner of the logo incorporates the traditional BT font with references to the telecoms provider’s well-known globe icon in red, yellow, lilac, purple and green.

The BT Sport logo looks very close to the old UKTV font.

Let's hope that BT didn't pay Red Bee too much for that logo - it's dreadful!!

I suspect it won't be used within the box on screen and BT globe thingy will rotate.

It could work with the BT colours swirling around the box, expecting big things from BT Sport they already have the technical infrastructure to rival that of Sky.

Last I heard they were only due to be getting the keys for the IBC on the 1st of February, so I doubt they've got the infrastructure just yet. Big plans, though!

It’s a big day for BT Sport with news that we have reached an agreement to acquire the ESPN and ESPN America channels in the UK and Ireland, including FA Cup, Scottish Premier League, European football and more is being added to the package of top action which will be available from this summer.

BT Group and ESPN announced today that they have agreed that BT will acquire ESPN’s UK and Ireland TV channels business. These primarily comprise the ESPN and ESPN America channels and their live sports rights portfolio, including the FA Cup, Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League, UEFA Europa League, and the German Bundesliga.

The transaction is expected to complete on July 31, 2013 after which BT will continue to operate at least one ESPN-branded channel which is expected to form part of the BT Sport TV package that will be launched by BT this summer. Additionally, the deal will allow BT to continue to show a host of US sports currently shown on ESPN America, including NCAA College Basketball, NCAA College Football and NASCAR. The ESPN channels will be broadcast from BT Sport’s new home in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. Until completion, the service for current subscribers to the ESPN channels across all television platforms remains unchanged.

I still don't get why BT think TV is something people want from them

It's surely not a case of people wanting TV from BT, but it's BT's job to make people want TV from them.

With 771,000 subscribers for BT Vision, I think they have a good case.

The problem with the previous competitors was the lack of trust that it would be a service that lasted. Setanta didn't do very well, because nobody had heard of it (and thanks to their crap adverts, earned nicknames such as Sultana), and ESPN didn't really hold much relevance either. Having an established name provide a service will garner more initial trust.

Why not? IP based TV is supposedly the way things are going and BT seem the obvious company to provide it.

Incidently they were banned from being in the TV industry for many years post-privatisation due to competition issues

Yes, although BT doesn't have a universally good reputation.

The big difference this time round is that it's essentially a driver for a platform rather than a channel for a channel's sake. It's more like Sky Sports in that respect
