On the subject of xmas, does anyone know when the promos'll start?
Yes, usually on the afternoon of the BBC Xmas/New Year season press launch (1991 press bash at 10.30am - first BBC1 Xmas promo sighted after Neighbours at 1.50)
Or failing that the day that the Christmas Radio Times is printed. This is usually in the first week of December.
As a rough guess I say they will start either on Wednesday 5th or Thursday 6th of December.

I've been through the transitions from the stripey '2' to the 'TWO' of the 80's and now the last lot. They all took a bit of getting used to each time. This lot aren't as drastic, because it would be commercial SUICIDE for the BBC to have dropped such an iconic image.
I've been through those same transitions, and yes at first I hated both the TWO of 86 and the '2' of 91, but both times soon changed my mind.
It's very early days, but I don't think I can bring myself to like them any time soon.
I think this change is just as drastic as the 1991 change was. The '2' may have remained, but the idents are so far removed from the old set, they might just as well have scrapped it.
I don't like the idea of these replacing the old twos.
When I saw the Makeral at 7am i thought
UUGGGGGHHHH - WHAT THE F*CK IS THAT and as for bounce, well the least said the better.
But when I was waiting for Cpatian Scarlet and saw that white box i thought, 'eh have they forgot to turn it on or something' then the two's arms case out and turned it round which made me laugh.
The I saw Domino for the first time. The comic timing on the arms for that one is just perfect, plus the way the 2 just stands there makes it funny.
But as for COMPATIBILITY. it's just not gonna work is it.
Plus i miss the old ones, optic always releaxed me and i found the often wierd and creepy music a good background. Plus when a new one came up they could always get suprised as the |B||B||C| TWO didn't pop up until the action began like the first time i saw the Vampire one I got such a shockand instantly liked it.
I really think they should change the purple box to another colour
bring back the old idents with the
BBC
TWO
On them. it might just work if they go about it right.
Please bring back the old ones, mix the old with the new and get the perfect channel identity.
and with refernce to liquid news.
What was that stupid woman going on about?
'The channel is too varied, it doesn't have an identity'
How many other channels do you know that have a massive number 2 bobbing around the screen constantly??????
and the fact that
|B||B||C| TWO was on the screen also helped pet.
Plus Asa i think you should try to find a time machine and go back to TV Centre that day....

What on earth was I talking about on Wednesday?! I've taped most of them this morning while at college and the more I watch, the worse they get. The fact is the announcers have a major excuse to talk from the start making the junctions shorter so not to 'lose' viewers. The font on the trailers just isn't right. The purple box is infuriatingly annoying - especially as it is bunged up on screen during the whole of the junction generally. I just can't imagine watching BBC Two tonight and being stuck with these four idents, now/next/later information and credit squeezing.
Can I ask for a refund?

I'm guessing either Christopher Price or that BBC News interviewer slipped something in your drink and made you say 'good things' about the idents. Either that or the Liquid News studio and all its vivid lighting made you a bit halucinated.
Anyway, I just hope BBC Two doesn't commit an LWT (sorry J2K!) and stick to only an extremely small number of idents. I mean, if this is the only 4 that BBC Two will be using for the next while, you my friends have been...well... SHAFTED... for a lack of better words.
See this is what happens, everyone gets all excited in the weeks before the launch, and then everyone hates them, So enjoy the Balloons, ITV Hearts, Choice Blocks etc whilst you can, because whatever they replace them with, will be worse!
A possible problem...
How will they cope when advertising a programme which is on both BBC ONE and BBC TWO.
I'm sure they'll clutter up the screen pointlessly with two logos, as well as, let's say and url here and there so that you can barely see anything! What is the bloody point of that huge intrusive PURPLE box? What were they thinking? Are they insane?

Yes Matt!
Lambie Nairn charged £30,000 for each ident, thats a grand total of £120,000!!
The BBC are stupid and thick to pay such a crazy amount of money for some absolute crappy idents that were rushed at the last minute! The domino ident was only actually finished over the weekend, and was delivered to the BBC today!
sofar today i have kept relatively quiet about the idents- i thought id give them 12 hours before i made my mind up. i think ive seen most of the versions screened today and i dont like any of them. although it must be viewed in perspective - theyre certainly not as bad as the current channel 5 idents - but theyre the worst bbc idents IMO.
it seems mr dyke is competeing with his old pals at itv - and it has produced the same result - ill concieved, short term branding ideas have undermined an already established brand identity ... eg its the same as the itv hearts. the only thing i can compare it to is E4's idents (ive only seen one of them) - targeted at a young audience ... which is fine for E4 - but this is BBC 2 - and it doesnt matter who is watching 12, 18, 27, 65 years old - as the BBC dont need to attract the most attractive audience for advertisers.
if you glance at the schedule, ok there is a fair few comedies/young peoples viewing BUT there is atleast as much general/documentary programmes for all ages.
i just reakon dyke is trying to quickly put his stamp on the bbc
(i give the idents 6 weeks to live - but if they last longer than 6 weeks - then theyre here to stay:(

Lambie-Nairn must have lost their mind-- first they give FremantleMedia this piece of slop, now they completely and utterly ruin BBC2.
I disagree with the whole 'personality' reason for these idents-- BBC2 already had a very big personality, and their idents were nice-=looking, creative, and DIFFERENT. This is very boring and samey-- a complaint often given to that dreadful yellow-and-black ABC look. I hate the purple box, though I do like the trailers-- however, the ugly color scheme and the sameness of the idents are what kill the package for me.
I thought BBC America was really the worst they could do-- I was wrong. They have completely and totally ruined a channel, just for the sake of change.
I guess I'm not going to say anything new, but the two elements that irritate me are the purple box :vomit_smilie_if_there_was_one: and the text spacing.
Nuff said about the purple problem.
The new text layout really looks rubbish in 16:9 widescreen. The centralised spacing was classy on whatever aspect ratio you were watching in.
All in all, a backwards step (but not as far back as ITV1 idents!!!!!)
At least 2 has survived.
IDEA FOR NEW TWO:
Two comes on, shoots the Lambie Nairn and BBC execs who agreed to this, blows away the purple box, and gets a horizontal |B||B||C| TWO from off-screen.
