The new BBC2 idents

Several times after watching Look East this week on BBC ONE, in between the 6:55pm News Summary and the Weather, BBC East have shown a promo for the Matter of Fact programme to be shown next Tuesday, which had the 'BBC TWO East' caption in the old style at the bottom centre, with the programme details positioned above.

I wonder if BBC East have a version of the new BBC TWO ident to show before Sundays 'East at Westminster' programme, with the local titling added?

As for the new idents, I think that has ruined the presentation of the channel. The only good thing I can say about the new look is the use of menus at programme junctions throughout the evening peak-time, to tell viewers what's coming up on the channel.

we had an old style |B|B|C|TWO promo for Midlands Report yesterday - but i think it was produced before the new ones were introduced. it would be nice to see an old |B|B|C|TWO Midlands ident before view point midlands or midlands report.

That is much nicer. Very nice. All they have to do is that then get rid of mackeral and bring back all the old ones except gardeners world which i never liked anyhow

Yes, bring back the old idents. There were over 10 years old, but far from had it. Channel 4's blocks were 14 years old when they were axed- they still dont look dated now.

Though of course, by the end, only four idents were in use that were actually over ten years old; the majority still in use were introduced 1997 or later. In fact, the average age of all the '2' idents that had remained to the end was a mere 5.4 years (approximately). So they really needn't have changed!!

im suprised nobody else has mentioned this,(well i dont think anyone else has), but today after midlands today we had an promo for view point midlands.  over the last 6 months or so, BBC 1 and 2 midlands trailers seemed to just say |B|B|C|TWO rather than |B|B|C|TWO Midlands - but today we had the first trailer of the new bbc 2 look - and to my suprise it has

heres a capture, so it looks more and more likely there'll be english regional idents : wonder how theyll fit North East and Cumbria in - could it be an abbreviation like NI in northern ireland?

I dunno, I quite like them, they do look fresher than the old ones, even if there is no variety at the moment. But the trailer style is very good, personally I never liked the practice of putting the BBC TWO dog in the centre of the screen during trailers and the purple box is a good device. If they can expand the look to include far more ident designs (and maybe even use some of the old designs recreated or modified to suit the new look -- the one where the 2 sees a bump on the floor and bounces round after it in particular would go really well with the new look) and bring other channels into the fold (with different coloured DOGs in the corner) it could be a very good generic look.

Except for London - there was a trailer for Metropol yesterday which had the purple monstrosity in the corner, but which just said BBC TWO - which is not that surprising since regional trails have always said BBC TWO rather than BBC TWO South East or BBC TWO London.

Whenever I look at BBC TWO at the moment they are always showing 'Fish' but then again there are 2 versions at least. I've got it on video about 10 time, pity I didn't tape something like Firecracker about that many times when I was younger!

And we had a regional trail on BBC One in prime time last night (after the Ten O'Clock News I think) for the BBC Sports Awards in the North which are being broadcast on Tuesday on BBC Two. BBC Two was centred at the bottom as before Monday!

Er sorry-anyway,I just forgot to say when I saw Paint on it's last appearance and no V/O for about 8 seconds I had that butterflies feeling in the stomach thinking they might run the full thing with no V/O-sort of like when you've got 1 number to tick off on the bingo paper,but you don't know if someone could call 'House!' at any minute... That would have been a real send off!

Yes, I had that exact same feeling! In fact, as soon as I saw it was Paint I instinctively knew it was the end, since it was the very first one to be shown, it seemed right that it should be the very last.
