The new BBC2 idents

I thought I would also wait a while before commenting on the new look BBC TWO.

WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?

What have they done? It looks absolutely awful!!! If they were going to ruin it, could they have not made more idents to ruin it with?

The old 2's had a much stronger brand and even my dad commented today that he doesn't like the new ones and much prefers the old ones. This is coming from my dad who never usually notices anything!!!

I just hope the BBC come to their senses! What a stupid thing to do - they'll never do that!

Whats next? A computer generated balloon being inflated by a bike pump? God help us all.

Well no, but then your not the BBC nor have as many visitors, plus your not 25fps, have music to compose.

It all adds up.  

3D Graphics per ident can be about 5k to 10k each as that's normally charged per frame rather than content.  Music could also be expensive and then there's other general post production, storyboards etc. to do.



Majority of people are more interested in the content rather than the look, as it's not very likely you can satisfy everyone.  Look at the new BBC 2 idents for example!  I know people who don't like them, people who they're growing on and people who see them as 'about time they got rid of that old crap' (!)

...but since it's on the subject, I preferred the white version

Well u never know, the BBC are capable of a lot of things?
One thing we can all be certain on is these new '2' idents won't be lasting as long as Blade, Neon, Paint & Water & probably not even as long as Duck or Aerial lasted which was 4 years!

So The War Zone - which contains images some people may find distressing - is introduced by...a '2' bouncing round the screen.

I'm glad I videoed loads of old 2s over the past couple of weeks, I think I'll just go and watch them all.

And surprise surprise...the Learning Zone looks exactly the same as it has for the last four years.

BBC PRIME had during the night the Learning Zone look until this year, when they changed the look to BBC Learning.

Personally I'm going to wait a while before making my mind up. But at the moment I kike the new trailer style, and the idents arnt that bad really.

BTW: I think getting rid of the old 2's (while keeping the 2 design itself) was a good idea. Some of them were 10 years old! What was once inovative is now frankly stale, so they decided to do something differnt. And of course nearly everybody hates it at first - look at all the complaints you see when anything big changes.

The only problem I have is there arent really enough idents for variety. (BTW I think bouce is pretty good as a plain ident, I dunno why they used Fish for Newsnight...). I hope they do get some more.

Apparently 8 more on the way according to a thread in TV Ark & ASA says a few more on the way

A couple of minutes ago on BBC TWO, they just showed an advert for the 'BBC Sports Awards in the North'.

As you might expect it was captioned 'BBC TWO' in the old style.

Same for a programme slide for 'North of Westminster' which was shown during tonight's edition of Look North.

Why do I get the feeling, an old ident will make an apperance at 1pm on Sunday?

An old ident on Sunday? That would be nice... I can't see it happening though.

I haven't actually seen Domino or Logo myself yet but I've got to admit I do like Bounce.. I think it works quite well. As for the purple box, I like it, but I'm biased 'cos purple is my favorite color...
