BTW Did anyoen notice on analogue they zommed up to 4:3 for the ident, then back down to 14:9 for cropped CBBC. I was hoping CBBC would see sense and stop croping, but no such luck.
The BBC TWO looks as though it's been stuck on with pritt stick! We thought it was done by the newspaper (maybe it was) surly the bbc can do something better.
Where does the Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland go on the ident (if it has a varient)?

im guessin each of the other BBC Channels, will have a different coloured box? for example,
BBC ONE = Red
BBC TWO = Purple
BBC THREE = Green
BBC THREE = Blue
BBC NEWS 24 = Yellow

I think it would look best with |B|B|C| TWO superimposed on the background, centralised at the bottom.
Oh, it
was
like that until yesterday...

It's me day off as well, and I dragged myself from slumbers to witness ident history. (I did the same for the BBC ONE balloon - that was even worse it was a Saturday) couple of thing to note..
A The web address should NOT be the same font size as the day and time caption (and OT why don't we use the 24 hour clock for these things. I remember when I had access to the German channels on Astra analouge all them used the 24 hour system, why not the BEEB.
B - What's the font - is it a specially 'fiddled' version of gill sans..?
C- I think that the 'block' station name will be rolled out across the other channels, however it'll be in a different corner of the screen for each channel. Ie Top left for ONE, bottom right for TWO, top right for THREE, ect.
Hmm. I can't say I'm that impressed overall, however I thought the balloon idea was silly when it started...

I was completely unimpressed when I saw 'Mackerel' earlier .. but then I was expecting that!
I think the purple box idea is great but having 'Subtitles' and the URL in the opposite corners makes the screen too crowded and busy. I think they should sit above the box, aligned to the right.
Also I think that the text - ie 'Day in the life of nodnirG. Tuesday 10.00' should be aligned to the right in-line with the box, rather than aligned left and floating in mid-air on 16:9.
Until the government ban the use of 4:3 screens, companies who broadcast widescreen should keep their on-screen furniture CENTRALISED! Broadcasting in 16:9 but keeping the 4:3 'safe zone' open is completely pointless! Us 16:9 viewers just see floating graphics and areas of nothingness. USE THIS SPACE! It's there doing nothing - do something with it!! Put a gonk or a christmas tree in it or something!
Well, Mackerel isn't great (since when was seawater yellow?) but it's not as bad as it could have been. The 2 doesn't really have a personality in it, it just turns around - it's more like a submarine than a shark, if you see what I mean.
Incidentally, at least there isn't a bug. But we've yet to see the threatened credit-squeezing. I have a feeling I'll be in a squirrel-throttling mood if and when they start that. (Is killing squirrels with your bare hands legal? Not red ones, just grey ones. Does anyone know any good squirrel recipes?)
