Apparently, BBC One made a 'waltz' ident that was never used - anyone know why?

Also, I think that haka should only be used for sport anyway..

I'll never forget the day the Queen Mother died and they used haka to introduce the news Exclamation Shocked

Get rid of the dancers Exclamation

Are you definally sure you are talking about the Queen Mother?. They used Ballet didn't they

I'm certain that a few days after the idents debuted a majory bereavement happened at the weekend and people complained about the idents because they didn't suit the mood of the occasion.

Don't you mean Ballet?

Pretty sure the late news was Capoeira. The earlier reports were Ballet. News 24 was introduced with Ballet.

Back to the topic of the TWO Morris Ident, I haven't seen it yet today...unless it was played early this morning...I guess May 1st & 2nd were the 'Plug days'.

Thinking about it you might be right on that one. I was thinking of the initial reports.

Had Betty lasted a few more years and carked it at Christmas last year, I wonder if they'd have continued with the bouncing puddings, given they were also deemed appropriate for introducing news reports of the death of over 100,000 people.

BBC ONE's idents are far too limiting, so they can't possibly last too long. These are idents of actual people dancing/moving in actual locations, you're limited to what you can portray.

I was originally led to believe all idents were shot in the UK, which they were -- and then they went and added Maasai, which was filmed in Africa. So, now that trend of UK locales is broken, why don't they just go all out and film sequences in America, Australia, Russia... Rolling Eyes

As for this BBC TWO Morris ident, I haven't seen it in over two days, whereas pretty much all other idents except Fire have been broadcast.

I have a feeling that, unless it's being kept as a rarely-used ident like Fire is, that it may have been a one-off Special Ident and has now stopped being shown...can anyone shed light on this?

It makes no sense. The latest ident they have before Morris Dancers was Fire back in July 2003 (IIRC) and even Fire is a rare ident at that meaning the last regular shown ident from BBC TWO is Sticky Label from March 2003. Why wait so long to have a new ident (1 and 1/2 years), noting that there were no Christmas idents this year, and then use it only for special occasions? Surely they would have introduced a new full term ident to give something new to the channel. In fact to be honest I was thinking that if nothing new came out soon then perhaps we were going to see a rebrand but were this not true then they would surely keep Morris Dancers going to show that they're still making new presentation. It makes you think...

You say pretty much all the idents have been shown except for Fire. Does this include the longer versions which I personally haven't seen for a significant amount of time especially Sticky Label (Long) and Fish (Long)?

By the way TV Room, where the hell have the copies of BBC2's Firecracker and Balloon gone?

Well, as you've asked ever so nicely... Rolling Eyes

Some video clips were removed off the site a while back. These were encoded in the early days of The TV Room at a low resolution and bitrate. They were also stored on a server that I'm trying to move away from.

I had intended to replace those clips fairly soon afterwards with better quality versions. However, with one thing and another, it slipped my mind. I shall certainly try and have replacements online soon - maybe within the next couple of weeks. If I forget (which is not unlikely), someone may like to remind me.

Okay. Sorry about being so rude... Embarassed

I honestly don't know...I thought Drum had disappeared but they've just used it into Soul Deep!

To be honest I think that to get some sort of accurate impression of which idents are used, we should create some sort of database of which ident was used to introduce which programme and when over a duration of two or three days. I for one will be closely reviewing most (if not all) the idents tomorrow as well as early into next week. You think an ident's gone and then it appears. Just watch the next two programmes will be introduced by Fire and Morris Dancers!

Do what you like but I, who is interested in this sort of thing, shall review the idents and hopefully see which idents are actually being used regularly.
