It seems that BBC ONE SCOTLAND do not follow the usual policy of the NETWORK. They only showed about 17 seconds of the 30 second ident.

Hope that BBC ONE NORTHERN IRELAND, WALES and the NETWORK got longer screenings? Was there any reference to a new ident from the announcer?

Wales played 15 seconds No reference to it being a new ident Sad

As far as I can remember, there has never been any on-air reference to a new ident. The new ones which have launched in evening peak-time have just been run longer than necessary to hammer home the point to any viewer who actually cares. Rolling Eyes

In answer to your question I did not want them to chop off the beginning of the programme at all.

They could have played a shorter trail so the ident could have played longer. Of course it could have been scheduled better to allow for this.

No, the Nations' media planners have never knowingly (or willingly) given up their air-time in favour of an extended symbol - new or otherwise - unless they're forced to!

That's a fair point. Smile

Well, the first time I saw it, it looked like a French and Saunders joke. It's absolutely rubbish, and they've taken this theme too far.

I rarely publish judgement regarding new idents, but will here, just for YOU:

Oh dear.

I don't not pay a license fee to have a now-increased fraction of programmes I don't watch fronted by some prancing neds.

Well I can’t say that I am a particular fan of the ident, but I suppose it fits into a set of generally poor idents.

IMHO I think the only one with half decent qualities (apart from the music and nice ladies in festival) is skateboard, well choreographed and excellently shot.

A bit of a disappointment that Armando Iannucci isn’t involved with the creative progress of designing idents, his spoof on 2004: The Stupid version was fantastic; A woman trying to pick up a bag she had dropped in the middle of the road being run over by a red car – fantastic! Laughing

Oh dear lord, dreadful isn't the word for this, laughable is. I thought Maasai was ridiculous, but Tumbler has well and truly snatched its crown. Ah well, at least the chavs will be happy now...

I have to say it's no better or worse than I was expecting - another uninspiring ident from an uninspiring set. On the plus side, I quite like the music. I can't work out what it reminds me of though.

Bearing in mind the way these idents aim to represent minority groups... disabled people, ethnic groups, and now chavs, isn't it time there was a gay ident? I feel my minority's being discriminated against! Maybe in 2006 we can expect BBC One to unveil 'Mince'. Wink

That's a great idea! It could start with Lesbians in dungarees holding hands with hammers tucked their trousers and then the mincing chaps in red flared trousers doing YMCA!

incidentally, call me geeky and uneducated, but what are chavs?

www.chavscum.co.uk should answer most of your questions... but in general, just think Burberry caps, heavily branded designer gear, Bling jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos, Vauxhall Novas/Corsas with body-kits... I'm sure you get the picture!

These aren't "chavs", they're just dancers in costumes (which aren't particularly chav-like).

I quite like the look of some of them too. Music sucks though.
