Now, let me get my head around this.
The BBC One controller is going to be head of Talkback Thames and the head of Talkback Thames is going to be controller of BBC One.
ONE of those moves must be what we all strive for, a step UP the employment ladder.
So what is the OTHER move and, more importantly, which move is which?

The way I see it, Heggessey going and thats all thats important.
Anyway does anyone know when the new guy will take over from HANDY HEGGESSEY .
I quite like the sound of this guy, its about time BBC One had someone with a bit of common sense......
Oh and does the DG like it rare or medium
BBC World Service. Demand a Broader View.
Now: Analysis
Later: The World Tonight.

Agreed all the way! Women controllers, IMO, have no traditional respect and completely wreck channels. Heggessey wanted rid of the balloons for dancers - but she didn't give a toss about the fact that BBC1 has been associated with globes for the past 40 years.

I know it's not a 21st century attitude to take, but I'm actually quite glad it's a man and not a woman!
I really can't see him keeping the dancers, and for some reason I couldn't have seen a man commissioning them in the first place (again sorry for the stereotyping!). Hopefully we'll be seeing a nice shiny (and credible) new presentation package for BBC One in the near future...Sure, it won't be his first priority, but each controller invariably has his or her own vision for the channel, which most certainly will include idents and presentation.

You were going fine until you mentioned dancers. Was the previous controller to Heggessy moaned at as he removed the globe in favour of balloons. I remember being slight uproar at the time but that went and people warmed to th balloons. Although the dancers aren't the best thing, I'm all for someone trying something new albeit it wasn't the best way forward.
Also to be honest, I rather a controller spends more time over their programmes than an ident. Yes, branding plays apart but its not everything to end everything and as I've said before if the new controller brings new presentation which is worse the dancer will that make the programmes any worse. Of course not, like the people who here which look for these sort of things, the majority of the viewing public don't give a toss whats before the programme as long as it airs and hopefully on time too!

Russnet you've hit the nail on the head.
One of Heggessey main failings was too much re-branding. She consistently failed to produce a corhearent channel with apprioate programming. The women is a disaster zone. She is obsessed with branding and bloody red. As one poster put [B ]"If Dancers are still there in 2006 i'll bomb the BBC"[/B]
I hope this new controller can take a tough approach to programming. Introduce more docuementory and factual programme moving away from "Lifestyle" and stop chasing rating.
The BBC is not a commercial channel which has to attract audiences to survive, It has a unique monopoly and should use this is inform, entertain and educate not merily blatenly run after the bandwagon cough: liquid assets, ground force: cough.
Im sorry to sound boring and grumpy but im fed up with Heggessey
