Yes, it's smaller this evening. I still think they should follow E4's example though, and stick the thing in the top left hand corner, even if the programme is being transmitted in 16:9.

Or just return to the |B|B|C| THREE style DOG.

It's a lot less distracting, but now looks rather odd. I think this latest hamfisted attempt proves that the BBC THREE logo was not designed with being turned into a DOG in mind. This was understood at the channel's launch in 2003 - why has it now been forgotten?

Although I didn't particularly mind the previous version, this one I really like. It's just the right size, transparency, and is a massive improvement on the old old one which I always found quite unattractive. And at least this one is consistant with the actual logo.
If only they would have the courage to be a little bit different, and put it at the far left of the frame - and it would be perfect! After all, BBC3 is meant to be an innovative and risk-taking channel...

The BBC want their DOGs to be 4:3 safe - and so they will remain floating on 16:9 material.
If you put the DOG far left then it would look very odd in 14:9 letterbox, as output by some of the newer set-top boxes that correctly interpret the BBCs AFDs (that can signal whether something should be 14:9 or 16:9 letterboxed by a receiver) It would probably be chopped in half on the majority of material...

From what I can tell, the original new DOG had exactly the BBC3 graphic at exactly the same size as it is on the ident box. Because of that, it suffers from the same problem as all the 'boxed' identities in that the BBC logo is ridiculously small (barely readable on small TVs) compared to the channel name (which, amongst a raft of other grievances, is something I hated when BBC2 became the first 'boxed' channel in 2001 - and something which I thought would have been corrected before being rolled out to all the other channels).
I didn't catch the second attempt at the DOG last night, but if they've just scaled down the graphic, doesn't that mean that the BBC logo is now microscopic?
Surely the new DOG is roughly the same size as the E4 DOG, and so COULD work at the top end of a 16:9 screen.

plus BBC DOGs are longer than the E4 one meaning it can't hide in the 14:9 - 16:9 space

I think they've only reduced the size of the THREE part of the logo - the BBC logo seemed to be the same size as before.

The DOG as it stands tonight isn't actually too bad now, although I think the THREE text needs to be a bit lighter. But on the whole it's far better now than it was when it first launched.
