But then ther's thg eother nastly habits the US & Eropean networks have. We already have the dreadul "next" and "coming soon" banners, but many channels go firther. I saw ZDF recently, and they had an opaque scrolling banner that took up a third of the screen! The worrying thing is, we're heading that way.

Yuck, it's still there tonight. Not enough complaints yet, obviously. What I can't understand, is why is the plain DOG used for the first two-and-a-half years of BBC Three's life suddenly no longer considered good enough and has had to be replaced by the abomination that we now behold.

If the DOG is supposed to be there to remind viewers what channel they're watching Rolling Eyes what was wrong with the old one which did that job well enough but a lot less intrusively?! (Obviously I'd prefer no DOG at all!)

Stuart Murphy has spent the entire five years of his controllership of BBC Choice and BBC Three dreaming up new ways of cluttering up the screen, but this time he has gone too far.

Speaking of US TV networks . . . they don't always put their "watermark" in the lower right corner . . .

IIRC, this change is only for certain sporting events, such as (in this instance) golf coverage on CBS.

Anyone fancy doing a quick mock of how BBC THREE could look with an on-screen "watermark" . . . ?

It should be in one of the bottom corners.

The DOG has dissappeared on Sky tonight!

If that DOG is the way of the future, I may have to start a malicious whispering campaign about Stuart Murphy.

I think they've just taken it off for the film, just as they did with the old one.

I read this thread and expected to be confronted with some sort of hideous sight when I next switched over to BBC Three. This evening I watched said channel and it only occurred to me halfway through the programme the new DOG was there. Either I'm becoming blind, less geekish, or I'm losing my hate for bugs.

I think the DOG is pretty good, but needs to be a tad smaller, and without the |B|B|C|

Be realistic mate, They wouldn't remove the BBC squares on any of their logos, it is like rebranding Sky Onc to One. No one would know the network of the programme. I think it looks nice but the Three could be smaller and the whole logo transparent.

I'm sure I was watching BBC THREE yesterday and didn't notice the new DOG, but I will certainly have a look tonight at 7pm.

I agree that DOGs should be more opaque though. US TV seem to manage this quite well (well ABC and CBS do, not sure about FOX or UPN as I've not seen theirs).

If you remember they did try having the "SKY" part of the logo so small during the 1999-2001 era that all you could really see was the "one" , although since then they have changed to make the corporate element more prominent.

(apologies for doing two posts one after the other - but I couldn't work out how to edit someone's quote into my previous one!) Shocked

PS: I thought it was only me who still called it SKY ONC! - hehe! Very Happy
