This, along with the "next" banner (something which should be removed from all digital channels- we have an EPG!) means I won't be watching BBC Three anymore.

Does this translate as:

"Sod the quality of any programmes on the channel, I refuse to watch because there's somethign else on the screen"?

That's more or less what I'm thinking in this case. It's not the use of a DOG (though I think they are unnecessary) it's the bloody size, opacity and position of this which makes it far too intrusive. Your eye is constantly drawn to the big white blob 20% of the way in from the top left of the screen, no matter what else is happening in the programme.

Yes, the quality of the programmes on the channel is part of that desision as well.

Yes...that is not so good. I hope it isn't there when I record part 5 of Doctor Who which I missed first time around next Sunday!

There were parts of The Smoking Room where people's faces were entirely obscured by it.
If they're going to insist on having something that size, fair enough, but shift it to the edge of the frame, or make it more translucent.. it's rubbish as it is!

BBC should take a leaf out of US channels and place DOG in lower right with 50% opacity. This means that it is out of the way from people faces.

USTV networks usually show their on-screen logo more like a "watermark" - transparent, with inverted edges.

I'll use this picture of The Late Show on someone's TV, as an example of the CBS on-screen "watermark" . . .

Trouble is, the BBC Three logo is a tad more detailed than the CBS one, so I doubt it would be readable if it were made into a watermark-like DOG (especially the |B|B|C| part, being so small).

I like the idea of the DOG being moved to the bottom right, but it might conflict with in-programme graphics. But as I said before, I think an E4-type solution would be best.

IMHO, if TV channels insist on shoving on-screen logos on to the programs, they should all be USTV style watermarks.
And, if a logo (like BBC THREE) isn't 100% suitable to be watermarked, I suggest it should be adapted accordingly.

That way, the TV channels still get to play with their electronic graffiti kits, and viewers don't have to put up with logos
that distract us from the actual content of the programs. It may not a perfect solution, but (IMHO) a good compromise.
