Yep - CBBC comes from a main TV Centre studio at the moment - which CBBC have bought out.

Indeed, it was done on a two year lease. This is up in February and there's talk about moving to a different studio, but I can't honestly see that happening at all, it would be too much hasstle to move both CBBC On-Air and Xchange.

I thought that the plan was for CBBC on-air/XChange to move to the restaurant block - or has that plan been shelved?

No idea, presumably they were taken over by 5 Live until it moved. The BBC (especially in BH) do keep refurbishing, moving, upgrading facilities every so often. Chances are it's been reallocated/knocked down/stripped out several times since Radio 5 closed

Also in the last year the original bit of Broadcasting House has been closed for its complete refurbishment. Everything in it has been moved to the newer bits of BH and spare offices in White City. It will reopen in a couple of years along with the first phase of the new complex there

If they were going to move somewhere else, wouldn't they build new sets, set everything up in advance so that they can just move from on to the other? Even though both Xchange and CBBC Channel are BBC productions they have to lease out the studio? But surely this is the BBC using their money to pay themselves back?

Where is the restaurant block? And why are they planning to move into it? Surely this would need more work to transform it from a restaurant into a studio.

Where did studio 9 come from? Wasn't this created? Didn't it used to be a storage area of something?

And what resides in the block that when you view it from the blue peter garden is on a right angle to studio 9 on the left? Behind the scaffolding structure that Blue Peter decorated with Bamboo and stuff.

If CBBC were to move anywhere in the BBC, wouldn't this be better as they would be right next door to studio 9, and in the summer could easily use the blue peter garden. Or is this space offices?

I remember CBBC One being in a studio with a balcony overlooking the Blue Peter Garden ... have they moved to a different studio now or are they in the same one?

Yes. And by happy coincidence, that is the Restaurant Block. Smile

My main worry is where the canteen would to move to?!

Still the same one, As they have the Glass blocks which i thought may have gone when they got a new look. Also in the studio before they are in now did they not have like a BroomCupboard set up on a stage with a pole to get down it? Anyway i think the CBBC Channel and Xchange are right next door to each other if i am correct? Surprised

CBBC on One & Two are still in the same studio, studio 9, the one that used to have the 9 screens (when they first moved in they were arranged into the shape of a nine), and the big desk, and does anyone remember the virtuality chamber? I never quite understood what it was for, I never saw it in use that much, and it took up a lot of the studio. Though that did mean that they had to use the rest of the studio too, then they moved the screens into the square and up the corner, and then later used the other area late in the afternoon on the sofa.

So they did use it all unlike now, where they only venture down to the seat area now and again. They should bring back a big proper desk with computers and everything on, and why does studio 9 still have the lift? Didn't the channel get rid of theirs? And when was it last used on CBBC One or Two? And they have that double sided projection thing near the windows, that you never see in use now.

Anyway back to the point. It is the same studio, just differently decorated, they still have the patio, and slope down to the garden through the double doors.

The studios are owned and run by BBC Studios AIUI, since de-regulation, ANYONE can hire out any studio in the country, so ITV/C4 productions have both been made at TVC.

As the studios are run as an independent company (I think they're part of a wholly owned BBC Ltd company [BBC Broadcast?]) they have to be leased out just like any other production would have to.

Of course it costs money, but it would cost money to run them anyway, so by establishing a price you can buudget for things more easily.

It's on the other side of TVC on the ringroad, the plan to move there was so that CBBC could be together. Having a dedicated studio for Xchange is also on the wish-list, at the moment rehearsals have to be awkwardly worked around CBBC Channel links/pre-recs. Also nothing can be done in the studio while Nelly Nut is being used.

TC9 was created from space on the Restaurant Block which is next to the Blue Peter garden.

Don't quite get you on this one I'm afraid...

CBBC does use the Blue Peter garden for links during the summer, but this is usually for CBBC on BBC1/2. It would get a bit messy if you tried doing both from there as it's quite small.

Yes infact they do, I remember they bragged about it on their first day. Is it true they also share with Newsround? Or am I thinking of something else?

No, you're not, Newsround has an annex of the studio (behind a big door) which is used for Newsround Showbiz and for short bulletins in the morning and evening.

Don't forget that at weekends it's also used for the UK Top 40 and was also used for the first series of Dick n Dom (now in TC6).
