It should be mentioned that the Eastenders was ALSO delayed because of BBC Scotland's "scheduling" (BBC1 Network showed two on Tuesday and one on Thursday. BBC1 Scotland showed the first Tuesday one on the day, the second Tuesday one on Thursday and the Thursday one on Friday. Again, the River City effect.

Oh, and their Masterchef vendetta strikes again, as Wednesday's Celebrity MChef was shifted to half-seven, with The Billion Pound Bank Robbery (where'd they pull THAT from originally?) inserted at seven o'clock.

To some degree a BBC2S (like BBC2W) may be a good idea to encourage BBC Scotland not to be ridiculous and reschedule BBC1 every single night, but I'm not sure I trust them to run it properly.

Tonight was a farcical change for change's sake, without any thought as to what the audience actually wanted.

I wouldn't trust the BBC Scotland scheduling dept to organise the proverbial piss-up in a brewery.

And I watch a lot more BBC2 than BBC1, so I'd rather they just fixed it and be damned.

Maybe there'll be a BBC Regions channel after DSO, and all the BBC Scotland-specific stuff can go there... (faint hope)

SNP re-ignites Scottish Six idea
BBC studio presenter
The SNP says BBC Scotland should deliver UK and international news
The SNP has written to the BBC's director general Mark Thompson calling, for a "Scottish Six" news service.

The letter from Pete Wishart MP re-ignites a long-running campaign for a separate Scottish-produced national and international news bulletin.

BBC Scotland decided in December 2003 to drop the idea following a series of public meetings and a poll.

On Wednesday the corporation said that any correspondence to Mr Thompson would be responded to in due course.

Mr Wishart urged the BBC to reconsider the idea, arguing that the new "political culture" since the Scottish elections was not being properly reflected in main London-based news bulletins.

I'm not suprised that a proposal like this has come from the SNP. It is possible for Scotland to have their own independent TV channel without breaking away from the BBC. Scottish News at 6pm? OK they could swap the news programmes in reverse, make the Scottish 6 Live and then show the 6 O'Clock News from London at 6.30pm but that would put pressure on ITV since there is already a Scottish news programme at 6. It can be done but there is a lot of work to do before hand, starting up a new channel for Scotland is a lot easier than trying to break away from the BBC.
