The reason I don't like the Balloons is because the London ones are crap If they did a fake one flying over Big Ben or Tower Bridge then I would be happy to see them stay as alot of them are dull, What about one at Stone Henge & That Newcastle Bridge or the White(ish) cliffs of Dover
There's a digitally-made one of Stonehenge where the balloon does an eclipse effect on the sun.
But I wonder also why the balloon doesn't fly over the world-famous landmarks - Big Ben, etc...

I think as I said in my earlier post, choosing world famous landmarks would seem in the UK a trifle predictable. While they may be appropriate to a non-UK channel like BBC Prime, the idents which show locations like St Michael's Mount, Eilean Donan Castle, Armadillo Centre etc show more imagination and prove that there's much more to the UK than just Big Ben, Tower of London etc.
The idents need to reach out to every corner of the country - choosing too many famous London locations seems rather old-fashioned and would reinforce a London-centric attitude of the BBC that persisted for far too long.

Also - London is Air Traffic controlled - they'd need to get incredibly special clearance to fly a balloon in central London - right on the flightpath to Heathrow
