The sky and balloon location is exactly the same as Armadillo Building, Glasgow. Hmm!

ive only seen it once (ie 1/2 an hour ago) - but im sure well see it every night from now on, my first impression is it looks fake - almost like a powerpoint animation, although it was only on for a few seconds.

Why don't they just fly the actual balloon over Brum?... oh wait... relaunch, right?

Course that's a 'fake' ident. Not even the West Mids Plod helecopter gets that low over Moor Sreet Queensway (which is roughly where the balloon is positioned).
For those interested, by my reckoning two things would have happened if it was real..
A. Letters would be written about it in the Evening Mail!
B. The balloon by now would be no more, as it would have burst by hitting the Mclaren Office block, which is just to the right out of the frame, and is around 25 floors high!
Well it may look fake, but at least it's something inventive!
I can't believe BBC Brum have actually done this - I presume it was them judging by the quality. Maybe there are more to come? I request we fly Nick Owen away in the balloon, never to be seen again.
i couldnt believe it either - and i too thought this must have been the work of pebble mill. i also cant believe they have been allowed to - if they did do it, whats to stop them altering the music and calling them bbc midlands on 1 ... not that they'd do any of that, but ever since 2W, the bbc arent as brand concious any more.
im in no way against it - i reakon they just got fed up of waiting for an ident filmed in the region, i think we (plus bbc east mids) must be the only ones who didnt get an ident filmed in the region.
good on you bbc birmingham, even though it looks sh*te, and its a poor quality recording, its a stand againt the big wigs in london. are there any signs of other regions following this (ie, creating idents purely for their own use - as this would never go out on network)
