Forget technical arguments about duration and whether it's an ident or not - I for one love the new ident. Have seen it for the first time tonight and I think it's the best of the set.

Anyone see the convoluted speech by the BBC ONE Scotland anno just now? The Sky Digital EPG lists it as "Programme not available". The whole Tai-Chi ident was shown and froze for a few seconds while she finished and then it faded into a caption and music. Was this only shown on DSat?

It's like the old days! Very Happy

Yes, presumably it was SPL highlights which the BBC only hold the transmission rights to broadcast in Scotland. So DSat (as it now broadcasts in the clear) has to split off from regular BBC One Scotland programming and show that barker instead. BBC Northern Ireland also has to split occasionally for live gaelic football - of whom the rights are regional at present.

Well, most people just think that BBC ONE doesn't have a symbol anymore (symbol=layman's word for "ident")

All laymen I know call it a logothingy and know that the dancing people are the equivalent of the balloons.

NI left DSat with network during that rather than using special filler material

Skaters was just played in full on BBC One a moment ago. It froze at the end too.

Who's the CA tonight? Can't say I've heard her before, she sounds like a newsreader. I wish she'd go WILD for a second or two instead of sounding like she's being held at gunpoint.

The great thing about Hegessey is that she has now totally justified the anti licence fee campaign, with throwing money at everything bar the programmes themselves (with the exception of Fame Academy.)

So she hasn't been throwing money at programmes, yet BBC1s audience share has gone up since she started?

Every channel spends on the bits in between the programmes... and they always have

Corporate branding for BBC1 (THERE I SAID IT - BBC 1, not BBC ONE) is totally unnecessary.

And if it wasn't branded or promoted and no-one knew about it or watched it.... you'd be moaning about justifictaion of the fee compared with audience figures!

Axe the licence fee. Give us choice.

Axe it AND give us a choice!?..... would the license be one of the choices?

The changing of speeds makes it worse - it just looks badly edited when that happens..

Even though, of course as even the not very observant will notice... it was filmed in 1 take.... no editing!

Just seen it on the net, it's a winner!

I'd meant to mention this too. Damn you, Larry. Wink

When you think about it, that's quite some achievement - seeing as very few programmes manage a single continuous piece of filming that long, and it involved extremely careful choreography of the skateboarders and film crew (bearing in mind the way the point of view is changed). It's also noticeable for the fact that 3 skateboarders in the same place at the same time managed to a) stay on their boards and b) fit their tricks in so well. As I said, excellent choreography.

That said, I do wonder how many outtakes there were before they got this right.
