I think starting it on Advent Sunday this year is fine. As a one off. The sooner we are reminded that this wretched year is nearly over, the better. Besides it sounds as if the idents are going to be better than the programming!

Why anyone would dispute the regular idents being gone for a longer period of time is beyond me, let's not look a gift horse in the mouth.

Exactly.

Generally speaking though I think the best compromise is what C4 have done over the last couple of years and use your Christmas idents around Christmas programmes only initially and then full time closer to the day itself.

Does depend on the ident set though how well that works though - would work well for BBC2 but with BBC1 usually now having something completely different to their main idents idents I think they may clash to much. Also arguably a strategy that works best with returning ident sets.

What some people fail to remember is that, if you spend a lot of time and effort on a lovely Christmas package and put large amounts of care and detail in the idents, surely you would want them to be on as much as possible? Besides, the amount of people who get excited for the ident after a month of trailers could be counted on one hand - members of TV Forum aren't the main demographic the BBC are pitching these at.

And as said above, why would you complain considering what it's replacing. I do hope they go back to the normal idents in the New Year, just to stop reminding us of this year, even if it is a bit like trading an Austin Allegro for a Vauxhall Viva.

Possibly the BBC should think about ditching live action now, unless its picture postcards

I think we should start a petition to reintroduce the following, if only for January/February, just to escape oneness.

I see no reason to stop at February.

They're winter themed. They'd need to make new ones for Spring.

Duncan has confirmed announcing before tonight’s The One Show that BBC One will be getting the decorations out of the loft ‘over the weekend’.
